I am SO glad you asked "What is a wiki!" - I also have no idea and sent an email to my son questioning him - wonder if he knows! Cheryl, you are just too advanced for an old woman like me! marlyn ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
A wiki is best explained by wikipedia, a wiki you probably use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki Originally they were open collaboration. However, in this world that doesn't work. There are always people who take glee in adding bad things, wrong things, obscene things. To prevent that you need a password to add to most wikis. One of the things this does is allow people who have no clue about web code to contribute information to a web page. There have been suggestions to do wiki web pages on the county sites but, frankly, you can't even put up a guest book without some jerk coming along and adding an obscene comment or a porno link so I don't think it will happen. There is a genealogy wiki at: http://werelate.org/wiki/Main_Page. I started a personal wiki there at: http://www.werelate.org/wiki/User:Cheryl The Logan County info on We Relate is at http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Place:Logan_County%2C_Illinois As you can tell I don't have a lot of time for this. You don't need a password for we relate but they have a staff who monitor all changes. You can get your own wiki space there. One last comment. A wiki would be useful if you have multiple people working on the same family involved in one, all adding genealogy. Cheryl Rothwell Cheryl Rothwell
