    3. Just a note from George Eastman this morning .... ancestry.com is making it free. I've already tried it out and the only problem is that I've posted 10,000 bios for KY so 10,000 plus entries come up with my name on it when I do a surname search! Sandi

    3. They have now -- like yesterday or the day before -- made it free BUT to view them you have to sign up for the free trial or at least register for a free account. Some have said this to collect names so they have more "members" the sale. I have no way to know if that is true. I do know that Monday they weren't free. Today they are. Next Tuesday they may not be. But they were [and still are] FREE on USGenWeb. So if someone pays Ancestry to view them that is wrong. Unethical at a minimum. 2. Wow! I am beginning to feel guilty for being an Ancestry.com subscriber. Sort of like being in bed with the enemy. Look at it this way: Surely the FREE services they provide via RootsWeb are worth what you pay for your subscription to Ancestry.com. So let's just say you are paying for that. <g> And if everyone keeps calling them the enemy, perhaps one day they will decide to be - and dump RW and the files and the mailing lists. They way some people talk, I wouldn't blame them. If you really feel like you are consorting with the enemy, my advice would be to cancel your subscription. And then every time you use any of the millions of free files on RootsWeb - or any of the thousands of mailing lists it provided FREE - including this one - then you can really have something to feel guilty about. <g> Richard
