I am looking to see if anyone has a reading of the burials for Orendorff Cemetery... I just found that it is inactive... is it abandoned? I am looking for the burial of Christopher Orendorff/Orndoff/Orendoff... He married Leah Bennett in 1859 in Logan County and in 1866 she remarried a William Martin, also in Logan County. According to a list of references to the Orendorff surname from the Lincoln Herald I have the following for Christopher: 6 Apr 1859 Sheriff Sale 26 Jun 1862, Sheriff Sale 24 Oct 1867 Sheriff Sale 7 Nov 1867 Sheriff Sale What would a sheriff's sale be? Julie, A sheriff sale, in general, is a sale of property (usually abandoned) for the payment of back taxes. However, I have seen them in some localities to settle other debts (court cases) or to settle estates. Laws vary by state and county and, of course, over time.
