What made me think there might be a contested property is the wording used in the sheriff sale notices. The terms used were "in favor of" and "against" when referring to the parites listed. The deliquent tax listing is quite helpful in finding the legal description of property owned by an ancestor. It is always described in the list. The tax lists for Logan County are included in my index of the Lincoln Herald. It seems everyone was late paying property taxes at one time or another. All the big names in the county are on the list almost annually. Even A. Lincoln owed 1862 taxes on the lot he owned in Lincoln.
