Can anyone explain the meaning of this document (below) other than it is used to correct a mistake in a deed? CHANCERY NOTICE STATE OF ILLINOIS, LOGAN COUNTY Of the May Term of the Logan County Circuit Court, A.D. 1898. Axariah W. Beaver vs. Jackson Preston, Ruth Green, Susan Bateman, Harry Lee and Maggie Burnhoffs. In Chancery. Bill to correct mistake in deed and reform the same. Affidavit has been filed in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit court of said County, that the defendants, Jackson Preston, Susan Bateman, Harry Lee and Maggie Burnhoffs, are not residents of the State of Illinois. Public notice is therefore hereby given to the said defendants that the said complainant has (file?) his bill to correct mistake in deed and reform the same against all of said defendants in our said court of the chancery side thereof, and that a subpoena has been issued thereon out of said court to the sheriff of Logan county, returnable on the first day of the next term thereof, to be holden at the court house in the City of Lincoln, on the third Monday of May next. Now, unless the said defendants shall personally be and appear before our said court at the time and place aforesaid and plead answer or demur to said bill, the same will be taken for confessed against them and a decree rendered according to the prayer thereof. Dated at Lincoln, Illinois, this 21st day of March, 1898. Aug. P. Kuemmell, Clerk S.L. Wallace Complainant's Sol'r Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
