    3. Good thinking James. I have great grandparents who have a wedding picture but no marriage certificate. Depending on whether you believe family records [based upon what I have no idea, most likely what the wife told her kids and grandkids] or the 1900 census they were married a year or two before their first child was born. Husband's obit says they were married in Sangamon rather than Logan which seems a bit odd but certainly possible. However, neither Sangamon nor Logan nor any other county in the state has a marriage license for them. Unfortunately there no local newspaper for the time survives and the Lincoln paper has been searched. 3. You might try Indiana too. I stumbled across one there. Joan Cheryl Rothwell <historysleuth@gmail.com> wrote: Good thinking James. 3. I think someone would have noticed if they had been gone long enough to go to Indiana by horse. They may have taken the train to Springfield so that made a bit of sense. It's all just a bit odd. I know in the bad old days some records "walked" out of courthouses but I can think of no earthly reason anyone would want this one. I have to think it was just misfiled but I haven't figured out under what. I think I have tried every possible search in the book.
