I have just gone through all my files in final preparation for my move. How many copies of printouts from the Marriage Index does one need? Do I really think my email contact list from 1991 is good? I found this on Steenbergen Cemetery, probably saved because it mentions four ancestors. Thank goodness they don't write like that anymore. The grounds purchased by the friends of and lying between the old graveyard - Steenbergens, and the public road on the east, had been planted in trees and is being enclosed by a new plank fence. The cemetery now contains about four acres and with its high elevation and a little care can be made a most beautiful "city of the dead." Many elaborate monuments mark the resting place of the once familiar names of Robert Buckles, father of the very numerous family of that name; Carter Scroggin whose good nature is well remembered in that ringing laugh and happy spirit which was his want; Wm. Copeland, Michael Mann, John Lucas, Elijah Freeman, Wm. Steenbergen, Jeremiah Birks who died in the year 41, and Thomas Lucas. All pioneers and patriarchs whereby[?] sires of sons and daughters whose[?] industry and labor have given us prosperous, fruitful and happy country. The old "land marks" ought not to be forgotten or obliterated.
