    3. Hi Steve, and List, This might be a good time to review what Illinois does provide to assist us in our research. There are 7 regional archives located at universities throughout the state. The holder of Logan County records, is Illinois State University. Please note that each regional archive only holds what the county wanted to give up. Some counties gave up everything, while Logan and others gave up very little. There is an online index to the criminal court records for Logan 1857-1945. There are quite a few Thompsons on it, but no Robert or Bobby. Still, he might have committed the crime after 1945. The url is: www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/logansrch.html On this page are all the online indices that are available. While you're at that site, browse them all, you'll never know what you might find, even if you think they never left Logan. If you go to the top of the page, you'll see a link called IRAD HOLDINGS. If you select that it will take you to another page. Select Logan and you'll find all the records that are stored for Logan. You can do that for each county in the state. These are not online, but there is a section that tells you how to order records. Be prepared for a long wait if you obtain them from IRAD. ISU is over a month behind, and is not even answering the phone; they have a recorder on. I've recently had great luck with Logan County; their turnaround was under a week. Enjoy! I knew of the family records in the 1860 US Census in Lincoln, Logan County, IL. However, I really do appreciate your collection of the tombstone records. I wish that there was an age or a birth year for Lemuel Thompson as he is a direct ancestor of mine. I have conflicting death information about MY Lemuel Thompson born in 1835 in Harrison, Vinton County, Ohio of parents Stewart Thompson and Susanna Salts. I'll bet that this is MY Lemuel, but I'm looking for confirmation. Regarding Alred Thompson, I'm thinking that the tombstone records a different Alfred Thompson than the 1860 US Census. Note the difference in birth years. There could be a mistake on the headstone. Again, too bad there is no notation of parents or birthdate. As for Alfred's criminal record, I was hoping for something more dramatic of my ancestors. I heard that a Robert "Bobby" Thompson born around 1922 may have served time for rape. Do you know where I can get either court records or prison records on-line? If not, where could I write for them? I'll keep an eye out for more on Alfred Thompson for you, too. Thanks again. 3. Let me make an addendum. If you are looking for someome before 1839 you need to check the Sangamon files. And Sangamon, in my experience, has fast turnover on requests. ISU is particularly slow for some reason. For marriage and death records, if IRAD has them, getting them from IRAD is significantly less expensive than from the county clerk. At this time IRAD does not have an out of state fee. 3. Cheryl - There are several searchable databases of the IRAD holdings for counties -- not all of the holdings but I think there is more than than the criminal record [although I may be confusing it with Sangamon]. Do you know how you know the main link to those or how to get to them? I had it once but not anymore. Cheryl Rothwell
