Cheryl: I need your expertise on Roots I had have several responses that stated my e-mail address wasn't available, and one that stated he went to ancestry to get it. I finally got around to checking out why and tried to correct it. ************************************************************************************************* See example below. when I hit buttonsvh http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.berrien/3231/mb.ashx Response: buttonsvh has chosen to use Ancestry's connection service to remain anonymous. The connection service is a premium service from Ancestry, which requires basic membership with a minimal subscription fee. Clicking the "Go to Ancestry Profile" button below will take you to buttonsvh's profile on Ancestry where you can click the "Contact this person" link to send a private, anonymous message through the connection service. ******************************************************************************************** I guess when I set up my Root's account I stated I wanted to remain anonymous, anyway that is what it states. I went in to my Account and tried to see what I needed to do to have my address shown, but had no luck. The thing is I don't have a paid subscription to Ancestry. I am one of those people that pray for free access, because I can't afford a subscription. I use Roots because of the generosity of others allow me to do my genealogy. So how do I get my e-mail address to show for the people aren't inconvienced when they want to contact me directly with the information? Thanks Vickie
Try going to that web page http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.berrien/3231/mb.ashx [or any message board page where you are signed in] and at the top right hand side click on My Public Profile. See what you can do there. I guess Ancestry wants to become "my space" for genealogy or something. I personally would not provide any information to them. Go to Yahoo or Hotmail or AIM or Gmail and set up a free email address that you use just for posting to such places. I am not an expert on Rootsweb. It seems to be an ever changing environment since it was purchased by Ancestry. Cheryl Rothwell
