    1. [ILLOGAN] Charles Barney

    3. A descendant of Abraham and Marcy Kelsey Lucas, a granddaughter named Marcy Jane Lucas, was the widow of John Williams. She was left with three daughters. She went west and became one of the pioneer Mormons. Eventually she married a Henry Barney. Some digging produced the the following.CharlesBarney had at least 9 children, including Henry, Lewis and Lurinda. He was from Vermont, most of the children were born in NY but some in Ohio, then back to NY. His wife died. He apparently then came to Logan County with the children. Lurinda married John D. Copeland. Lewis married Elizabeth Turner. Not to be outdone old Charles married Deborah Riffle Street of "Lake Fork, Logan County, Illinois." They had at least seven children, the early ones being born in Logan or Sangamon [don't know if Sangamon is a mistake or they moved around -- it does seem that he moved around a great deal], the last being born in Nauvoo. He joined the church there in 1840 and they moved to Utah. He was also a pioneer Mormon. Elizabeth Turner is from the marriage of Walter Turner and Lydia Ballinger. The Turners and Ballingers were originally Quakers, later Predestinarian Baptists. Turners married the Lucases and Birks, perhaps others. Walter Turner's uncle Allen had, among others, Mary who was the first of four wives of the Thomas Lucases, and the far more interesting Spencer, first man tried for murder in DeWitt County. He was defended by Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas and was acquitted. Do the Barneys ring a bell? They seemed to have passed through Logan County like a whirlwind. Did they marry into other families as well? Does anyone have a Barney? Does anyone know who Deborah Riffle Street would be? Cheryl Rothwell
