Burial location is Atlanta, Illinois which is the home town of her family. Father was Simon Scott and mother Nancy. Sisters were Sarah, Addie, and Fern. They are found in the 1880 Fed. Census in Atlanta Township, Logan County, Illinois. Does anyone know which sister was killed by the train (in Atlanta I believe)? I also believe the sister was killed by the train when she was an adult. Ollie was killed June 1, 1897 when she handled a 38-calibre revolver. (Trying to move it? Or?) I'd sure like to know the details. I'd also like to know if anyone remembers Ruth Peck as a teacher. Ruth died in about 1981. Cheryl - There are several searchable databases of the IRAD holdings for counties -- not all of the holdings but I think there is more than than the criminal record [although I may be confusing it with Sangamon]. Do you know how you know the main link to those or how to get to them? I had it once but not anymore. Cheryl Rothwell

Let me make an addendum. If you are looking for someome before 1839 you need to check the Sangamon files. And Sangamon, in my experience, has fast turnover on requests. ISU is particularly slow for some reason. For marriage and death records, if IRAD has them, getting them from IRAD is significantly less expensive than from the county clerk. At this time IRAD does not have an out of state fee. I'll bet that this is MY Lemuel, but I'm looking for confirmation. Regarding Alred Thompson, I'm thinking that the tombstone records a different Alfred Thompson than the 1860 US Census. Note the difference in birth years. There could be a mistake on the headstone. Again, too bad there is no notation of parents or birthdate. As for Alfred's criminal record, I was hoping for something more dramatic of my ancestors. I heard that a Robert "Bobby" Thompson born around 1922 may have served time for rape. June 7, 1913 aged 75 yrs 3 mo 25 days Civil War-Army Pvt. Co. H. 7th Il Inf. Willie Thompson (son of Amos & F.C.) d. Aug 4, 1881 aged 10 yrs. 5 mo. 4 days. Lemuel Thompson d. Oct. 22, 1882 aged 38 yrs. Jonathan Thompson d. April 28, 1887 aged 31 yrs. Alfred Thompsons d. March 15, 1890 aged 56 yrs. there are many more Thompson's buried there but these are ones you can pinpoint to your ancestors. I had a Sarah C. Steenrod/Burrows/LEE..Thompson ..ggg grandmother who is my BRICK WALL!! I know she married an Alfred Thompson in Logan county, Il on June 1, 1871. This was her 3rd marraige. And she seemed to have trouble with men. In trying to pinpoint which Alfred Thompson is her spouse (NOT much LUCK yet)..I found an Alfred Thompson.. from Lincoln who had a least two scraps with the law... I sent for court papers...hard to read them..very hard..but from what I could make out he rode his fathers horse up to a neighbors house and stole a TURKEY and rode of real quick..but people saw him and he had to go to court. So I'm not sure if We share the same Alfred Thompson or not. It's been my brick wall so I don't know much..I believe he also divorced my Sarah Cornelia Steenrod and remarried a Elizabeth Miller on Aug 17, 1881. Well hope some of this info may help you. If I figure out anything more on the ALFRED Thompson mystery I'll let you know. You might take a peak at Dewitt County..for some reason I think(memory?) that Alfred had some connection to Dewitt Co. also..maybe some of the family moved on to that county in later years??
