Ancestry.com has made access to its military records collection free through June 6 to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day, when the Normandy invasion began in 1944. You can both search and download record images (you'll need to register with the site before viewing records). As everyone runs to Ancestry expect the internet version of busy signals. Chose a time when you think fewer people are trying.
I don't know. Often when they did those moves they put all the stones together in an area [which seems logical - also, generally they just moved the stones back then]. I know there are books relating to Atlanta Cemetery but I don't have one. If someone who does is on this list perhaps they would check and if so provide us with a list. I tried to go to the site but I get '" This page cannot be found." I am looking for information about Jacob Myers and his Wife Elizabeth [McDaniel] Myers. I can not find a death date for them. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmaga/Illio-SQ-book.html It works for me just fine. Give it another try. Mary Ann is on this list. She's pretty much the expert on Illiopolis so she might be able to help you in any event. It is really excellent - one of the better "searchable" sites. Example: if you are looking for a marriage record, and you know the county, and a reasonable marriage year, you can sometimes find a clue to the spouse of a female child that you haven't located before. Be creative with spelling, sometimes that helps - ie: Armanda instead of Amanda, or Bathshea for Bathsheba. And, the county maps are great, especially used for township/range information to cross reference land ownership, or patents that you can print the originals on the BLM site: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Yes, both deaths in fact: the gun "accident" and the "hit by a train accident" - could have been suicides - in fact, since they were sisters, it may even eventually point to a genetic condition of extreme depression. Where I live, I recall when perusing newspapers, that people committed suicide by all sorts of somewhat bizarre methods. I remember reading about two sisters who - together- jumped into a flood-swollen river to end their "misery." THANK YOU !! Google maps are great for finding many things. However, they aren't all that great for Logan County. Try the Mapquest.com maps instead. You can zoom in further than Google, although not to the max, and they look pretty good in general. That's for Logan County though. It's terrible for where I live. But it is an option. If one doesn't do so well where you want to look try the other. Cheryl Rothwell
