I do think that you may have discovered a branch of my family that I am unaware of. Gary, I think that the marriage certificate for Patrick and Bridget would confirm their parentage and validate that this is the right family --> STEP 1. If this is the right family, I would like to get more on the children and I would appreciate your suggestions on this. I will follow-up with a check and the request. I actually have several other Logan families (stumpf & martini) and I may have a few more request to follow. Thanks! As Historian for the Bock Family Association, I have information on the descendants of Peter Reinhart (1834-1904) m. Anna Catharina Bock (1829-1900). We are most interested in recording descendants of this family. I can be contacted at woodart@srbfl.com and please include a subject line of Reinhart Family. Bill Stephenson

Many of you know of Sandra Shellhammer, genealogist and wife of genealogist Dalen Shellhammer. Possibly they are most noted to readers of this list for their work with Steenbergen Cemetery where Dalen was head of the board for what seems like forever. They walked many, many cemeteries and helped many researchers with local research in Logan, Macon and Sangamon Counties. They lived practically on the Sangamon/Logan line just off Shellhammer Road. Sandra died this morning after a battle with cancer. She had been a resident of Vonderlieth in Mt. Pulaski for some time. I think of her as a local researcher and more recently involved in heir searches so I was surprised to find the following posted on the Association of Professional Genealogists mailing list. I was informed this morning that Sandra Stewart Shellhammer of Illiopolis, IL has passed away in the early hours of today. Sandy has always been a person who was willing to lend a helping when a question arose about IL research. Sandy's quiet assistance is what has made her great. I have known Sandy for many years and I truly feel the genealogy world will be less bright now that she has passed from the scene.

My apologies for my earlier message. I just read the message and didn't look at the subject line - a common fault! Then I assumed it was the Civil War, an unwarranted assumption. It is best, though, that you included the crux of your message within the body and not just in the subject line. Not exactly correct on the NYT. They are making the last 20 years free and the years before 1923. The years between 1923 and 20 years ago are not free. They are copyright. There will be a charge. A great addition for researchers though. He probably received the watch during his World War I service rather than afterwards. During World War I, the U.S. Army required soldiers to use wristwatches rather pocket watches, and the returning veterans started a new fashion trend! Guy I. If you read the whole story it says what will be available to the great unwashed masses is birth records 75 years old, death records 20 years old and marriage records 50 years old so it is within the laws and can be the actual record, no need for abstracts. I am assuming they digitalized everything. Only those within the law will be available. Logan County has no plans to digitalize their records unfortunately. Some of the probate files have been microfilmed because they ran out out of space to store the records. Let me say their records were microfilmed by a microfilm person and not a probate person so things are difficult to find, very time consuming and after a couple hours the staffer had only located one of the probates on the microfilm where it was supposed to be. We found some interesting things along the way though. Some of the records Logan County has in their marriage index could not be located. Some of the early record books are very fragile. There ARE some land records which survived the fire. On 9/11/07, cheryl kale <cheryl_kale2000@yahoo.com> wrote: > > Hi Cheryl, > > Guess we've got to agree to disagree on this one. Hi Cheryl, Guess we've got to agree to disagree on this one. It seems pretty clear to me and to others on my lists that they "digitized" the millions of birth, marriage and death records that had been in storage. Digitized records are not abstracts. Abstracts are created from manual entry of certain data. My main concern is how much will be charged for these records. I sure hope they reduce it because they no longer need to manually look for them; we'll be doing the searches. We'll see.....historically Chicago/Cook Archives raise fees as much as the market will bear. I sure hope you get good news from Logan. I'd love to see some automation helping us there. I started indexing one of the wills/probate films from LDS but have not been able to complete it. I've got it on permanent loan, paying $16.50 for that privilege, and I can't get there. Maybe LDS will digitize those? Or maybe Logan Co will. Cheryl Cheryl Rothwell <historysleuth@gmail.com> wrote: The Tribune is a pain in the rear. They only keep those available a short period.
