    1. [ILLOGAN-L] Help finding obituaries
    2. Could someone help me with the names of Lincoln, Logan Co., newspapers which would contain obits in 1934 and 1944. I need obits for Arminta McDONALD, about 68 yrs who died 17 Apr 1934, and her husband, Daniel J. McDONALD, abt 83/84 years, who did 24 Feb 1944. Both are buried in Harmony Cemetry, Logan Co., IL. This couple had a daughter, Lelah/Leila who I have lost tract of and am hoping the obit would help. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you. Rochelle Johnson

    1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] Causes of Death, Occupations
    2. If you ever come across some type of illness in the Logan Co. area around 1864, I certainly would be interested as Ebenezer Duff's wife and married daughter died within a day of each other - suspect there was a connection. One of Eb's sons lost three children to diptherea (sp?) within a week's time in Logan Co. in 1870. No wonder he picked up and moved to Texas! Jim's gg-grandfather, Abel Larison, died in a cholera epidemic in Galena, IL - have the date somewhere - but since the family lived in both McLean and Logan Cos., we have no idea why he was in Jo Daviess Co. You really do an excellent job for the Logan Co. researchers! Marlyn Duff

    1. [ILLOGAN-L] Cemetery Junction
    2. >From Dick Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter: Cemetery Junction A new web site appeared recently that may interest many genealogists. Cemetery Junction Directory is a collection of cemetery listings submitted by volunteers, coordinated by Illya J. D'Addezio. The amount of information varies from state to state. The site includes a directory of over 10,000 active and retired cemeteries and has a series of articles and helpful hints for researching cemetery information. It also has a number of links to related sites. Cemetery Junction Directory can be found at: http://www.daddezio.com/cemetery/index.html I can think of plenty of 'retired' cemeteries to add. Can you? 3. Hellos Shaunee...I read you message ahbour obtaining cemetery records at the Old Union Cemetery. There is a plan to computerize, but I do not know how far back the records go. What i do know is that it is not difficult(if you are in Logan County) to go to the library and scroll through the old newspaper films. I have done that for many indiviuals , and once you get the hang of it is goes fast...especially if you are only looking for obits. They tend to be in the same part of the newspaper every day. There was more than one newspaper in Logan County, and more than one in Lincoln, but if you are looking for a Lincoln resident, you only need to go through one newspaper 's obits. Each newspaper carried all the deaths and funerals.Good Luck..britta B. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] Death date and obit
    2. I was told that the folks at the Springer District were computerizing their records, beginning with Old Union Cemetery, and plans to have them on a CD. I could not find anyone who had heard of that to confirm it. However, the person who originally told me is on the board and also on this list. Perhaps she will come forward. This implies to me that they have more information than is contained in the cemetery listing books. Whether they have that information back to 1875 I couldn't say. The Logan County Clerk does not have records of births, deaths or marriages before 1878. IRAD has some marriage records 1857-1901. I don't know any place keeping the death records that early. The library in Lincoln has old papers on microfilm but they are flakey [literally] back that far. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] Death date and obit
    2. The Old Union Cemetery probably would have more information, but very few gave full dates of death, if I remember correctly. My husband's great- grandmother died in 1864 and is buried there but sometime after that burial one of the sons placed a new stone at the location. The Lincoln Library does have some booklets containing all of the info in the various cemeteries - have you tried contacting them? Marlyn Duff New Berlin, WI

    1. [ILLOGAN-L] Death date and obit
    2. Hi, I wonder if anyone who has tried could tell me if the the Union Cemetery in Lincoln would have more information on the exact date of death. I have Rebecca Shields Baldwin, buried in Union Cemetery, with a listed date of death of 1875. The county did not begin to keep death records until 1879. Without her death date I can't begin to look for an obituary in the local paper. I'm not sure the local paper would have one, but who knows? Thanks for any advice. Shaunee Power

    3. I have 4 original photos that I would like to give to someone related. They show John Calbraith Thompson, wife Phebe Fowler and children and on the back of one states "John Thompson and family, Elkhart, IL taken in 1901" Are there transcriptions for the cemetery in Elkhart availiable? 3. Hi: I'm Marge Farmer and I am also searching for Morris. My grandmother was Effie Jane Morris, daughter of Lemeul Morris and Sarah Richards. They all lived in Lincoln, Logan Co. as did my grandparents grandma Effie Jane and Francis Marion Ramsburg, after they were married. My father, Fred W. Ramsburg was born there. Anything look familiar? I do have names of other siblings if this sounds familiar to you. Effie Jane was born in 1869.
