Raszy E. Curtis was born 7/20/1862 and died 11/25/1863. I believe she is buried in Logan County. Is there any record of her burial and are there any other Curtis family members buried in the same cemetery? She is the daughter of William & Eliza Ann Curtis who later moved to KS. Also, what are the names of the Logan County townships close to Waynesville, DeWitt County? Bob Halsey rehfla@aol.com Viera, FL
Here's the link to the information on the Disciples of Christ/Christian Churches in Logan County that I mentioned earlier. Note that it covers the Copeland Christian Church mentioned earlier as well as others. Eventually this link will be on the upcoming churches page on the web site. http://www.ag.uiuc.edu/~mcmillan/Restlit/States/Illinois/logan.htm If you know of links for other churches please let me know. I am forwarding this message for a new subscriber. Note the address for posting to the list is ILLOGAN-L@rootsweb.com Wm. W. Curtis b. 5/26/1837 married Eliza Ann Campbell b. 2/19/1843 in Logan County on 12/27/1859. (License 370, Vol. 1, page 185) I don't know what town. They had five children prior to leaving for KS in 1868. Their first child John W was born on 2/19/1861. I have looked at the 1860 Census Index for Logan County and found a Wm. Curtis; however, he was an 18 yr. old farm hand living with an Eli Thomas. If someone has the 1860 Census for Logan Co. and can give me a page number, I would appreciate it. The same would be true for the IL 1865 Census. I would like any information on Wm. & Eliza. Anything would be helpful. Bob Halsey rehfla@aol.com Viera, FL http://members.aol.com/rehfla/elihalsey/index.html I will add that Enock Curtis had five sons and one daughter. Two of the sons married Scroggins. The other three -- Charles, Louis and William -- moved to Kansas. The Green book says William was born in Ohio [presumably Pickaway County since that is where the family came from] and moved to Kansas. Enock came to Mt. Pulaski Township in 1853. Refering to to the book Lincoln, a Pictorial History, I am researching McCray, and wonder if any are in the book. Mike McCray
Actually I may have been mistaken. It may actually be a history of Lincoln. I have called my grandparents to find out more information. I haven't heard back from them yet. At any rate. Copies of the book were given to my father and my aunt just last Christmas. I know that they were talking about giving the pictures to some museum last fall. So I assume it is a new publication. My grandfather is mentioned in the forward as providing many photos as my great grandfather was a photographer in Lincoln. In 1982 my grandfather was still alive so I know that this publication is after 1988 or there abouts. I will let you know when they get back to me. Thanks Alberta. Sounds like a most interesting book. I am trying to place Gleason and not getting very far. I note Gleason does not tell us who his parents are in the '82 history. How can I get a copy?
Hello, There is a new publication on the history of Logan country. My family has several copies. My grandfather actually supplied a lot of the photos for the publication. I will try to find more information for you. There is a publication since the 1982 History? I haven't heard of it. The 1982 History collected all pictures they could from everyone they could. Are you aware of the 1982 History of Logan County, Illinois? It has family histories for two families named Hickey. I will summarize a little below. If any of this clicks, send me an address and I will be happy to copy the pages for you. James Hickey (b 6-6-1922)descended from a Willian Hickey, born in Tipperary, Ireland in 1827, and renting land from William Scully in Sheridan township. James was son of Emmett, grandson of James, and great grandson of William. He is reported to be curator of the Lincoln Collection in the Illinois State Historical Library. The other is Josephine Hickey (b 6-10-1894), daughter of James H. and Mary Rourke Hickey and wife of Alfred Wacaser. James H. (b. 5-2-1851 in Staunton, VA. )was a son of John and Ellen Hickey, who came from Tipperary, Ireland. Josephine had a brother named John, according to this report.
