A couple people have said they can't read the cemetery list. It appears that if you use Netscape there is a problem. I saved it in a different form and Netscape can read that BUT it drops all the lines making reading the chart difficult. I personally hate Netscape and this is just another reason. <g> I am going to have to figure out what I can do to make it readable for all. In the meantime, if you use Netscape but have a spreadsheet program I can send it to as an Excel 5 file. Let me know. If you know anything about any Logan Cemeteries please go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~illogan/locem1.htm and check out the cemetery listing I am working on. Additions, corrections, completion of blank spaces, welcomed. This is an unlinked page so you'll need to go to it from this message or write the address down to go to later. That's locem1 [one]. For some of the cemeteries section information is given in the cemetery listings book. I don't have all of them to check. If you have others and find the information please let me know. I've been to the fair a zillion times altho not in the last 30 years. I don't remember any cemeteries but we undoubtedly took the Primm Road to Lincoln, not 66. Now that you've given me those details I have found the little cross on the plat just south of the state school. Thanks. Since I wrote that message I've collected the locations [latitude/longitude] for most of the cemeteries. My genealogy software [TMG] has a way to use that [I have no idea how <g>] and I guess it would be useful if you were hunting the cemetery. I think street address will be hard to come by although these days I think they they all have one in case someone has to call 911... In the past the listing had the name of the USGS map, which is different from the township name. Is that useful or confusing? Cheryl - I don't have the exact address but there are located on the southwest side of Lincoln, south of the fairgrounds. Old Route 66 splits them. I've got relatives from the mid 1800's buried in Old Union so I'm surprised it's not on the old maps. I'm doing some major work on the cemetery list which some of you may have noted has some errors and omissions. I've never cared for using the government map names instead of the township names for locations either. I have counted 61 cemeteries in Logan County and I think that is all of them. The map shows some three isolated grave sites and two unnamed cemeteries. One of the 'unnamed' is known to me -- Mt. Pulaski. The other 'unnamed' may be known as Orendorff or Medcalf or Metcalk or some combination thereof. It is on the Orvil/Eminence Township line, not sure which side as I can' find it on a map. If you know anything about this cemetery please let me know. Where exactly are Union and Old Union Cemeteries in Lincoln? I don't believe I've been to a cemetery in Lincoln. I gather they are in West Lincoln Township but I don't see them on the old maps. I need verification of the location. The state genealogical society insists that Lake Bank and Two Mile Grove Cemeteries are in Mt. Pulaski Township. I disagree. I say Lake Fork. These I have been to. Anyone? If anyone wants to read the list I have to look for errors before I put it up let me know and I'll be glad to share it. At the moment it is a WordPerfect 6/7/8 document but I can convert it to HTML so everyone can read it. Is there anyone on the list that could do a look-up for a marriage for: Mary Randolph Coppenbarger after 1850. She is listed on the 1850 Census for Logan County as: Mary Cottenbarger age 31 b. VA She has children: Eliza Ann age 13 b. IL, George A. 11 b. IL, Josiah 6 b. IL, William 3 b. IL, Matilda 2 b. IL She is the widow of Peter Coppenbarger, I have them listed as married in DeWitt County 1844 but I cannot find a record there. She married Henry Burton sometime before 1865 when her son Grant Burton was born. Who are Eliza Ann and George A. ?? Are they children of Peter Coppenbarger or was Mary married before she married Peter??? Any help is appreciated. Thank you Earliene Kaelin jeniann@wa.net / earliene@wa.net

If someone buys a CD the company donates a copy of the file to the USGenWeb Archives to be placed on the web for free public access. The cost of the CD is based on the number of page numbers. It was estimated that the cost of a CD of the 1850 Logan County census would be 200 pages or about $90. Presumably the later censuses, covering increased residents, cost more. I have already ordered the 1840 census which is the first Logan County census. Since that time I have been contacted by someone who is willing to share the cost of the 1850 census CD. This is for information only. I have not purchased anything from Heritage Quest myself. This is from their press release. Heritage Quest has now coupled their well-known data accuracy with a powerful new search software that was developed in-house by computer and genealogy experts. Now instead of searching just a few criteria options, you are able to search any, or all, criteria extracted from the record. For example, in the Family Quest Archives(tm) 1870 Index, you can specify Surname, Given Name, Age, Sex, Race, Birthplace, County and Locality. This allows you to narrow your search possibilities and provides much faster search results. This new software is also incredibly flexible. It gives you the option to include specific age ranges or perform a wildcard search to include all spelling variations of a name. Once your search is complete, you have the option to sort the data in ascending or descending order, copy a record the Windows Clipboard, print your findings or make a text file of your search discovery. For more specifics about the software and indexes go to http://www.HeritageQuest.com/genealogy/CD-ROM Family Quest Archives Census Index: Illinois 1870 Census Index by Heritage Quest contains over 730,500 entries. It lists the heads of households for all 1870 counties and cities in Illinois, plus every male over age 50, every female over age 70, and all persons with other surnames in the households. Entries include name, age, sex, race, birthplace, locale, and county, and source microfilm roll and page numbers. System Requirements: IBM-compatible 486 or higher, Windows 95/98, 16MB RAM, 15MB hard drive space, and at least a 2x CD-ROM drive. The 1790 and 1900 Family Quest Archives(tm) Digital Microfilm will be available FOR SALE BEGINNING April 1, 1999. Each CD retails at $19.95. Heritage Quest Research Club members will be given an initial introductory price of $12.95 (thereafter $14.95). Well, Shauna, don' t feel alone; we've got a brick wall, too! Following your lead, here's our names and a brief history: JEROME DEWITT HEUSTON/HOUSTON b. to WILLIAM & ALMIRA/ELMYRA HEUSTON July 1863 near Kickapoo Creek, Logan Co., IL. At the time of his birth, Jerome had 2 older brothers - Theodore and Ebenezer- and a 1/2 brother T. Hartselle Barber born to Elmyra and Stephen Barber. Hope that this time the post finds someone else who is familiar with this family! Good hunting! Sherre
HELP!! Out of desperation, I am posting all the information I have on my "brick wall" and hope someone recognizes him. By the way, my goal is to get past John WILLIAMS and move on to his parents, who, at this time, are unknown to me. I also have plenty of information about John's wife, Marcy Jane LUCAS, so I'm not concentrating on her. Okay, here goes... John WILLIAMS, born in 1814 (?) in Louisville, Blount County Tennessee, USA. He married Marcy Jane LUCAS on February 10, 1831 (documented) in Sangamon County, Illinois. John died in 1844 (?) in Lake Fork, Logan County, Illinois. His widow subsequently married a man whose surname was BARNEY and moved to Utah. John and Marcy Jane's children are as follows: 1. Amanda WILLIAMS, born November 24, 1833 in Logan County, Illinois. She married a Riley George CLARK on November 20, 1850 (place unknown) and she died February 6, 1920. 2. Sarah WILLIAMS, born November 11, 1836, in Mt. Pulaski, Logan County, Illinois. She married a Robert Wilson GLENN on December 5, 1853 (place unknown) and she died on February 11, 1914. 3. Polly WILLIAMS, born May 28, 1840, in Mt. Pulaski, Logan County, Illinois. She married a James George DAVIS on October 21, 1856, in St. George, Washington County, Utah and died on August 12, 1914. This is my husband's ancestor. 4. Elizabeth WILLIAMS, born March 11, 1841, in Lake Fork, Logan County, Illinois. She married a George Washington SHIRTS/SHURTS in 1852 or 1854 (place unknown) and died on July 6, 1907. Elizabeth also married Don Carlos SHIRTS/SHURTS on 23 August 1859 in Parowan, Iron County, Utah. 5. William George WILLIAMS, born 29 July 1842 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. He married an Orilla MOFATE on March 18, 1861 (place unknown) and died on November 1, 1914. 6. Mary Ann WILLIAMS, born September 20, 1844, in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. She married John Alma LEE on January 18, 1859 (place unknown) and died on February 8, 1882. I am hoping that someone who is descended from one of Polly Williams' siblings can help me get passed John Williams and find his parents. Thanks in advance for ANY information you can give me! Hi List, Can anyone help me find how or where to get birth certificates and marriage certificates or applications of people who are still alive? Is this possible? How or where do I find a birth certificate of someone who is not alive, but the exact date of birth or birth place isn't known? How or where do I find marriage and divorce information if only one name is known without the specific dates or places? I have been told that Illinois didn't require birth registration prior to 1916 and some of the information I am looking for would be prior to 1916. Also I have been told that marriages/divorces prior to 1962 have to come from the county they occurred in. If this holds true, then can someone direct me to a source that might be able to help me find the county if it isn't in the one I think it is? I am looking for my information in Logan, McLean and Sangamon counties. If you receive this as a duplication, I apologize. I need contact information for all three. Thank you in advance, Sharon
This mailing lists have been set up with the new threaded archives. At the moment only messages posted after 3/7/99 are in the threaded archives but eventually all archives of this list will be there. http://archiver.rootsweb.com/archives/Logan-L For this system to work most effectively it is important that you change the subject when the subject of your message changes rather than replying to the last message. If your subject line is good it will also be easier to search the archives to find that discussion of, say, Jeremiah Clark Salt Creek 1821.
