    3. That is a shame. Anything we can do for her? Like make a donation? I remember her because we both volunteered at the same time. Since I was setting up the ISGS web site at that time, I bowed out. Didn't realize how much maintenance a web site can take. 1. [ILLOGAN-L] New Web Sites
    2. There are two sites you'll want to visit this week. One is the official opening of the Mormon Church files site at http://www.familysearch.org/ It is slow and often down but if you pick the right time you'll be rewarded. I spent about a half an hour there yesterday. Remember, Ancestral File was contributed by people who may or may not have done their research. It is undocumented and should be treated as such -- like World Family Tree or any of the other massive undocumented files. The IGI, on the other hand, is actual information extracted from vital records around the world. The second site is from Ancestry.com and contains message boards organized by surname, by country/state, by topic. http://www.FamilyHistory.com You can post a query on their message boards as well as use other free sections of Ancestry.com including World Family Tree. It looks like a good plan might be to go to the site and register, then set up your 'favorite' message boards for future use. Right now it is pretty calm but I suspect it will get crowded as more folks discover it. 3. I have been getting very good response by using http://www.familysearch.org/ There are some web sites that seem to just go off of the surname, there are Ancestry files that give the name of who else is researching those same names in addition to names, dates, places for family or pedigree. There are also the IGI files. I was on it at about three central time today with no problems. 3. Dear Alberta, Thank you for your very detailed response. I intend to be patient as I have contacted Holy Family rectory and they haven't sent me a negative response. In this case, no news (I hope) is good news. I was told that there is a parochial school that Holy Family is also involved in, so hopefully they will find some free time as the summer time nears. Thanks again for such a nice detailed response. Sharon >

    1. [ILLOGAN-L] KUDOS to Logan Historical and Genealogical Society
    2. Sharon Thomas
    3. Hi List, Just wanted to let you know that there is a wonderful Genealogist working for Logan county, Illinois' Historical and Genealogist Society. His name is Eddie Kirks. He was nice enough to call me and fill me in on all that he has found even before sending it off so that I would know there was progress and he had found my people. It really made my whole month! He has been able to help me find my HICKEYs back to Tipperary, Ireland. I knew they were related some how to the Hickeys that were listed in the books (thanks to you kind people who sent me information) and Mr. Kirks was able to fill in the dates including how they were related. There are still some fact finding that I need to work on. If anyone shares the same lines as I do, I can now tell you the birth and death dates for a couple generations. My John descended from a John that was in Virginia as well as married in Maryland and settled in Logan county, Illinois. I have several generations that lived in Logan county. Mr. Kirks also helped explain my cemetery questions. Hopefully I will hear from Holy Family church soon, as that is the correct church for Holy Cross which is also known as St Patrick's cemetery. Also the mystery of my father not having a birth certificate was solved by my mother this month. McLean county had it stamped as a death certificate. She sent me the copy that she had been sent just this past week, but is requesting a corrected copy that shows it as a birth certificate. I just wanted to share this exciting day. My brick wall has been climbed! Sharon

St. Mary's burned 09 Dec. 1976 and the congregation joined with St. Pat's 15 March 1978 and they named it Holy Family Church. I have cousins who belong to that church. I belong to the Logan County Genealogical and Historical Society and was given a printout of 2 pages of Cemeteries cared for by Logan County, including 12 cemeteries not cared for by County Cemetery Deparment. Among these 12 are listed Holy Cross in Broadwell Twp. Section 2; and St. Mary's in West Lincoln Section 34. This had to be before 1986. The persons to contact then were Carl Hurley or the priest at St. Patrick's and Paul Logan or the priest at St. Mary's. I suppose the priest at Holy Family has the records for both cemeteries now. In my 1878 History of Logan County, John Hickey, farmer, Sec. 1, P.O. Lincoln; democrat; Catholic; from Ireland; William Hickey, farmer, Section 1; P.O. Lincoln, democrat; Catholic; born in Ireland. They were listed in Sheridan Township, Logan Co., IL. In the 1982 History of Logan Co., IL the Hickey's listed are: America, Brian, Dennis, Ellen, Helen, Hilda Tomlinson, James, Jo Anne, John, and Marjorie Leever. I was told that John, Mary, William, Helen, Margaret HICKEY were all buried in Holy Cross cemetery in Logan, county. However when I tried to get contact for the Holy Cross cemetery, I was told that there wasn't one, but was instead Holy Family. I am in Kansas, so couldn't physically check this out. I talked to someone at the Holy Family rectory and they said that they had the Holy Family cemetery and for me to send a written request and they would check their records. I have done this, but no response yet. I am not sure if Holy Family is the right church. If someone has the cemetery records, could they check and let me know any information about these people or the cemetery. They are Catholic if that helps. Thank you for any information. Sharon

    3. Sharon: I too have family buried at Holy Cross and was given the Holy Family Rectory, I sent them a letter stating the family I was interested in (they too were Catholic) and they replied with quite a bit of information. I had no idea when any of them died but they furnished all that, the church they were buried from, the priest who recorded it and on baptismal records for the kids, they even gave the sponsors. It took my response about a month so hang in there.. Good luck. 3. It printed partially out with Explorer (which I don't like as well). Guess because Netscape was first developed here at the U of I? Oh well. That is why there should be choices and instead of being forced to use one over the other. The choice for word processing in our office is WordPerfect but we have to Microsoft Word too. Ever try to index in Microsoft Word? Yes, you can send it as an excell document. No problem. I have a committee that checks the web page using various tools. AOL's web browers; Explorer and me on Netscape. I will download the page tonight and see if I can spot the problem.
