    1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] New on the Web
    2. Good Morning Cheryl, The dogs and cats are from a book I put together on my family. This particular book (there are four others) is the folks connected to Logan Co. The folks mentioned are not necessarily from there but in some way relate to someone who is. I have included my line, in-laws lines, and sometimes their in-laws lines, plus names of neighbors and Civil War records, etc. I have been researching my family for over 26 years and just want to share my diggins with others. When I started out they didn't have computers, wish they had. My father grew up in Logan County and we used to go visit every year when I was a child so kind of grew attached and think of it lovingly. Here is info from indexes for you: Buckles: Charles Franklin Buckles m. 2 Jan 1880 Logan Co. IL, Eva Coats b. 1860, dau of Calvary Morris and Mary E. (Penrod) Coats. No further info on Buckles. Lots on Coats. Scroggins: Susan Jane Munyon, dau of Edmund and Frances Charlotte (Coats) Munyon, b 25 Apr 1868 Ohio or more probably Illinois. She d 1927/28 in Mo. Buried Forbes Cem. Holt Co. Mo. (my line is Edmund down thu his dau Hester) Children of JOHN AND SUSAN JANE SCROGGINS: EDWARD SCROGGINS. JESS SCROGGINS. CORA ALICE SCROGGINS, b 3 Sept 1886, Lake Fork, Il. Died 18 Feb 1927, St. Joseph, Mo. m. 2 Aug 1906, Oregon, Holt Co. Mo., Eli Durang Arnold II, b 12 May 1885, Doniphan Co. Ks. son of Eli Durang and Rose (Wilson) Arnold. Eli died 1950, St. Joesph, Mo. (Have more on desc. of this family if you want it) Shellhammer: This is a name found in one of the sisters letters. You have that. Woods: PETER and AMY (WOODS) PENROD had daughter Margaret I. Penrod b 19 Jul 1835 Athens Co. Ohio (I have cemetery records of that co if needed) Margaret m. 25 Feb 1854 Athens Co. Ohio John W. Coats, b 9 Mar 1832 Athens Co. Oh, son of James and Mary Ann (Fierce) Coats. (James and Mary are parents of my G. Grandma Frances C. Coats) John d. 31 Mar 1917 Mt. Pulaski, IL. Both buried in Steenbergen Cem. Mt. Pulaski. (Have more on this family if needed) WOODS: If Amy fits in your family can look her up in Athens Co. file. COPLAND/COPELAND: Refers to a land patent in Greene Co. Pa. Cornelius Lemunion transferred 53 acres of land named "Jane" to William Coplan on June 2, 1825. 1. [ILLOGAN-L] More of the Big Snow
    2. Joan Lund
    3. In Menard Co. the snow was over 4 foot. The thing that was so usually about this particular time period is that the snow stayed on the ground for for a period of three months or more. It commence snowing in December, 1830, and it snowed until the middle of February 1831. Feed was out in the fields. Man could walk on top but a horse would fall through. It snowed every day for two months. In McLean County the height was from 36 inches to over 4 feet. A great deal of stock was frozen to death. Ther deer and wild turkey was almost exterminated. The snow fell it drifted and other snows fell and other drifts were made. In the spring when the snow melted, the face of the country was covered with water. Crops were sown late with a fair crop of wheat harvested; but the corn, which the settlers depended upon most, was bitten by an early frost in the fall. Both of these accounts mentions that wolves were a problem.
