    1. [ILLOGAN-L] Town Histories
    2. You ask for it -- you got it == unless you are looking for Lincoln, Atlanta or Mt. Pulaski. I have put up the town history pages [I would not expect a lot if I were you] from all the towns except those listed above. You can access them from the history page. They come from the 1878 History. And now, if I can ask your consideration, we have some terrible news and I need some time to deal with it. Give me some time please. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] 1840 Census
    2. I forgot to mention that the 1840 Census isn't listed there yet... That's why I gave you the direct URL. It will be listed eventually. I was told the delay was because there have been a large number of images made available [nationwide] and all have to be indexed on that site so it takes a while. I hope that is true because the more census images available the better off we all are. Remember, SK didn't have to make the images available -- they are losing money on sales by doing so. And Rootsweb has provided the space -- and they always can use donations. 2. The URL for Illinois census images is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/cen_i.htm#IL If you are looking for another state you can replace IL with that state. To get an overview just delete #IL. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] 1840 Census
    2. I'm glad you like the 1840 census. Thanks to several members of this list the 1850 census will be available in a few weeks. Several members have expressed interest in contributing to th 1830 Sangamon County census [which would include most of what is now Logan]. If anyone is interested email me privately. The 1880 census transcription is available from the Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society. The 1890 was destroyed. The 1860 and 1870 censuses could also be purchased but I haven't gotten an estimate. I would guess we are talking over $200 on each of those, perhaps considerably more. Cheri was going to help transcribe the census. Do you think we need that or are the online images enough? 1. [ILLOGAN-L] Lee Bradley
    2. Two people emailed privately about the death of Lee Bradley of Lake Fork. This child died July 4, 1946, of burns when he tossed a bucket of gasoline on a fire. Personally, since he was two, I don't buy that but that is not the issue. I have managed to lose the email address of those who queried me about it. If you are that person I have a copy of newpaper report. The account does provide at least one clue that might be useful to you. Please contact me by email. 1. [ILLOGAN-L] Sangamon Ordinance
    2. I don't know if any of your research is affect by this but the government took quite a lot of land between Mt. Pulaski and Illiopolis to build the 'war plant' during WWII. After the war they apparently quit claimed some of it back -- perhaps for the same amount they purchased it for altho that is not clear. We always referred to it as the 'war plant' but its official name was Sangamon Ordinance Plant. If you drive the Illiopolis-Mt. Pulaski blacktop you can still see evidence of this installation. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] DeWitt History Postings
    2. The Logan history isn't really set up that way. There is information on the towns, some of it quite extensive. I have researched in the articles but not studied them for suitability. The 1910/11 Stringer volumes on Logan has a volume of biographies but I don't have that. I don't know if the reprint is copyright. Would someone owning the Stringer volumes check for copyright on the reprint please? In the interim I'll look at the other Logan history. There are also brief bios in the Atlas. I'm sort of overwhelmed with things at the moment so feel free to nudge me if I don't get back to you. 2. Atlanta is in Logan County but that area [can't say about the city proper off the top of my head] has been in various counties. I don't have an exact map in front of me but in 1830 Sangamon included Sangamon, much but not all of Logan, parts of Mason, Menard, etc. The north and northeast end of what is now Logan was slower to come into the county. I have brief run down of that on the main web page at the top.
