    1. [ILLOGAN-L] This and That
    2. If you sent me something for the web page and I emailed you for more information you need to send that information before I can proceed. If you submitted a query with no Logan County connection it was deleted. You need to resubmit with the appropriate information. If you contacted me about a child who died in a fire in 1946 I have more information. Contact me again as I have lost your address. If you have information on a church or school that no longer exists I am going to try to pull together a page on each. I already have French's Chapel. Name and location are critical, more information is desirable. I know where Buchanan School was and what is there now, for example. I even know non usable stories about it. <g> Sometimes the location can be helpful information. Somewhere online several years ago I found a map of Logan County with the roads are all named. These days they have such exciting names as 878th Street [roughly the boundary of Mt. Pulaski and Chester Townships] for purposes of fire protection. If I can find that map again we might be able to give approximate addresses that would be useful. 1. [ILLOGAN-L] Cemetery Update
    2. My eyes are crossed but the updated cemetery list is now up with thanks to Alberta Lisk for additional information. There are also new notes at the bottom. This is the absolute worst page to work with, requiring intense concentration for hours. The section diagram on that page is also new. In addition, Alberta contributed information on cemeteries in Chester Township and a listing for Baker Cemetery, also in Chester Township. 2. The first Duff School was located in Section 5, T.29 N.-R.1 W. in Aetna Twp. in Logan Co. Later, after they moved, the Duff School was located on Hwy. 10 in East Lincoln Twp. - Twp. 20 N. - R.II W - Sec. 28. Both buildings still exist -- folks purchased the buildings -- did some remodeling and live in them as their homes. MJD

    3. Well, good luck. I have several Logan Co. census waiting for me and I will keep my eye out for her for you. I think I have 1830, 1840 and 1860. 1840 is on line now and I understand 1850 will be soon. I think it's wonderful to be able to sit here & pull it up on the net. I still have not found John Frederick RAMSBURG. I want to get to Logan to, but don't know if I will make it. When you get there, I believe the library has city directories from past years and they are a good source too. Someone found my Effie in there, so maybe you will find Clement. About all I can say is that all of this keeps us out of mischief!

So being so close (looks like about 200 miles) I really want to try to get over there. Ron

    2. Lincoln never grew on me. We always called it 'stinkin' Lincoln.' <g> The rivalry between Lincoln and Mt. Pulaski goes back to at least the 1840's. Mt. Pulaski was the county seat and Lincoln took it away. Mt. Pulaski fought back and the court finally gave it to Lincoln. The 'fix' was in no doubt... 2. AFAIK their hours are Wednesday and Saturday. I'm a life member and I haven't seen any notice of changes to the schedule. See the listing on the web page. I'd call them to make sure they aren't going on vacation in June or something. It doesn't hurt to contact them in advance anyway, let them know what you are looking for, etc. They may be able to have someone available to help you if they know you are coming and what you are looking for. 2. This is for your information. The GenConnect server at Rootsweb is down. If you are trying to access the boards you can't. 3. Logan Co. List, In a few weeks, (about June 15th - 17th) I will be within a few hundred miles of Lincoln and Logan Co.. I would like to know if the "Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society" has "office hours", or open by appointment, etc.? Can one review their resources? What kind of material do they have? Do they have items for purchase other then the "1880 Census Transcription"? (Which by the way I hope to purchase, but thought I would wait until after my trip, should I not get there.) I generaly fail to ask the right questions right off, so hope someone can help me out here with some useful information about the Society. We have totally lost trace of several folk after 1882 and have not found any films via the LDS / FHC's that have helped. Therefore hoping that they may have something locally... Thanks Ron

    2. The address for the Logan County G & H Society is: 11 Arcade Court Lincoln, IL 62656-2743 It is located directly across from the County Courthouse Square. Their Library Hours are Wed., 1-4 PM and Saturday, 9 - 12:00 noon. When there, you also might like to check out their beautiful library -- it was one of the old Andrew Carnegie libraries -- they did have to add on, but the original portion remains on the National Historic Register, I think! Lincoln is not the easiest town in which to get around, but if one goes often enough, it grows on you. Good Luck! Marlyn Duff New Berlin, WI

    1. [ILLOGAN-L] Any Willis' out there?
    2. Penny Duncan
    3. I am at a dead end with Charles (nickname: Spot) WILLIS born (reportedly) in Emden, Logan Co., IL 27 Jan 1871. He had a brother named Jasper (Jap). Charles married Mary Taylor in Emden in Sept 1892 and died in Peoria 8 March 1940. I haven't been able to locate any record of a Willis family in Logan County. I found a typed sheet of paper with the names of William and Tracy Daniel Willis as his parents, but no places or dates. I haven't obtained a copy of his death certificate yet, but I don't hold out much hope that it will provide me with anything other than names that I already have. Is there anyone who would be willing to do a lookup for me either for Logan Co. or Peoria, Co.? I have not been able to find any record of Charles' birth. I have his original marriage certificate and lots of info on his wife's family. He is buried in Peoria, none of my living family members remember him mentioning anything about his parents or where they lived. Penny duncansonline@juno.com P.S. Check out my list of orphaned photos on the Mason County site. I may have something you'd be interested in. Some of these people were very likely from Logan Co. and I'd love to find homes for more of them! http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmason/pdpictrs.html ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
