    2. So far, most people are saying they use IE. I know those with AOL addresses use either the AOL browser or Netscape. I was wondering why no one pointed out the wonky font sizes on the main page to me. It REALLY looks wierd to me in Netscape. I'm working on it. 1. [ILLOGAN-L] Surname Searches
    2. Bookmark this search site. They have combined several into one comphrehensive one. It works too, probably because the index robot searches regularly. It indexes our pages. http://surhelp.rootsweb.com/srchall.html This is another reason to include names, locations and dates in your query. Anyone can use this search engine. When they find a query they are most likely to start to the ones with the most information because they can narrow things down without wasting a lot of time. "Looking for Jones" would go to the bottom of my list. "Looking for Harry J. Jones, Logan County, IL, 1840" makes a significant difference. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] 1840 Logan Census
    2. I don't understand your message. I have no Jewett, Juett, Jouett families. The Logan County site requires a Logan County connection -- and that the person you seek information on be deceased. You have to state the Logan County connection of course. That's the most common reason queries are rejected -- failure to include a Logan County, IL, connection. Second most common reason is probably something that indicates you are searching for a living person. And, if you sign your query Jane Doe or we find your email address does not work the query is rejected. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] This and That
    2. The main problem is copyright. If those obits are 75 years old it isn't a problem -- it would be much better if you knew the paper for reference in case, for example, someone wants to look it up. Please read the information on the obit page and submit yours according to those instructions. If the obits are less than 75 years old we need to discuss some details. Some newspapers really don't care about publishing obits and others do. A modern paid obit is fair game. 3. I have a number of Logan County obituaries that I have typescripted from newspapers. In some cases, I have the obituary (from my grandmother's scrapbook) without the name of the newspaper. Is there a way that I can contribute these for use by other genealogists? Among the family names involved are Hieronymus, Houghton, Thompson, and Bishop. Carolyn Houghton Chapman

    2. Hi Cheryl, Not really sure what newspaper, except that the scrapbook I found them in belonged to my father whose mother was Jessie Ellen Phillips of Logan Co. Il. The note with them says Lincoln newspaper. Only know that they are cousins by marriage of Edmund and Frances Carlotta (Coats) Munyon who came to Logan Co IL from Athens County Ohio. The same for the article on Logan County's last Civil War Vet that I sent you earlier. Lois

    2. Penny Duncan
    3. The following is a list of pictures in my possession that I am trying to find better homes for. Most of these people are of no relation to me, although some are of distant relation. The dates of the photos range from the 1880's to the 1930's. The pictures belonged to Neva Willis Chaney of Emden, Dewey Chaney of Hartsburg and their parents, John R. Chaney Jr. Rhoda Estep Chaney, Mary Taylor Willis and Charles Willis. I do not know where many of these people are from but I am sure that some are from Logan County. I am not selling the pictures, but I generally hope for reimbursement for postage. This list has been on the Mason County GenWeb page since last fall and several pictures have been adopted by their descendants. I am happy to answer any questions you may have about the pictures and hope to hear from many of you!
