    2. Cheryl, I'll need to check that out at the FHC. I tried looking at the online site and no submitters are listed, so I don't know if it was Vallentine or not. My father-in-law did buy one of his books last year. Is he not very reputable or something? I got a lot of my Lucas information from him. Just wondering, Shauna

    1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] family search
    2. I searched all my Ryans although my great grandfather was the only one to live in Mt. Pulaski. His family did not take kindly to him marrying a Protestant so in 1890 he came to Mt. Pulaski where his wife was from. All of the rest of his family was in Kansas and were never heard from again until after he died. I checked the Green book [the original basic source for Mt. Pulaski] - no other Ryans in it. I find it a bit odd since your grandmother didn't die until 1954. Perhaps none of her family was left there, all having removed to Lincoln and other parts. 3. I am seeking information on my ancestors from Mt. Pulaski and Lincoln. Especially my g grandparents James Thomas Ryan and his wife Arminda Jane Hedrick Ryan. All I know is that they were married sometime in 1888 and settled in Mt. Pulaski. He died on May 30, 1925. She was born onJan 14, 1863 near Olney, Richland County, Ill. to Alexander R. and Susan Hedrick. She died in Mt. Pulaski on Sept. 14, 1954. They had seven children: Charles, Errol, Wilbur, Cecil, Fayetta(my grandmother who lived in Lincoln.), Kenneth, and Ivan. I have a copy of her obit. and would like to know where I could or if anyone has a copy of his obit. I am from Lincoln myself. I was born there on Dec. 7, 1940 to the parents of Leslie Spidal Ross and Betty Jones(who was from Peru, Ind.). If anyone knows or has any information pertaining to my g grandparents or any of their ancestors or descedents and would be willing to share this with me I would be very grateful as I have hit a brick wall where it comes to my g grandfather James T. Ryan. You can reach me at my e-mail address:hallnancy@hotmail.com Thank you ahead of time for your help. Nancy Ross Hall help. Nancy Ross Hall

    2. Those are the kids I have listed also. I haven't checked all the dates. Sometimes I have the names a bit different -- Margaret Lucinda rather than Lucinda Margaret for example. I also have Wiley married Sarah Phillipe, then Salina Sams. Phillipe could be a misprint of Phillips. They married a lot of Sams, Scroggins, Lucas and Copeland descendants. I have one Buckles and all of the Lucases as well as some Scroggins and Copelands. It gets pretty dizzy. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] 1840 Census question - Hi Rochelle!
    2. Hi Rochelle, Yes, I remember you! I'm trying to find out the parentage of one John Williams married to Marcy Jane Lucas. The confusing thing is that the information I find in the Ancestral File contains different information than the family information I've gotten from family group sheets. I don't know if we're dealing with two different people or what!! Anyway, I know the guy had parents, and I'm bound and determined to find them. I'm waiting for the 1850 census to come on line, because according to the family group sheets, my John Williams died in 1844, so if he's still listed in the 1850 census, then Ancestral File is probably right. If not, the family group records are right and someone has recorded the wrong Williams line into Ancestral File. And that was probably more information than you wanted to know. Thanks for letting me vent and thanks for the information on the employment section on the 1840 census. Little by little my 'brickwall' is coming down!! Shauna

    2. Hi Shauna, You and I have both corresponded before. I think the 2nd column on the 1840 census is agriculture. I hope you will be able to locate your "brickwall." Sincerely, Rochelle Johnson of Missouri

    1. Re: [ILLOGAN-L] 1840 Census question
    2. The second column was agriculture. It was the primary occupation of almost everyone in the county. I'm glad you found someone. Makes it all worthwhile. When the 1850 census goes up I'll let everyone know. The anticipated time was 2nd or 3rd week of June so it should be soon. Both are buried in the Oak Hill cem. Sangamon Co. Il. Is this any of your Buckles? Need parents, siblings, and children of Mann P. and Martha. Thanks Lura

    2. Finally working on some of my own lines... I am trying to verify a list of children for Robert Buckles [1798-1866] and Mary 'Polly' Birks [1803-1888]. I have 13 children and someone else thinks 15 but can't list them. I am also trying to straighten out the children of John Buckles and Esther Jane Scroggin. 1. [ILLOGAN-L] 1840 Census question
    2. I am almost 100% positive I found my husband's brickwall relative in the Logan County 1840 census! However, could someone please tell me what job was listed in the 2nd column of the employment section? The first column was mining, and my husband's relative's job was checked in the second column, but I couldn't make out what it was. One last question that has probably already been asked and answered, but is the 1850 census out and online, and if so, what is the site address? My thanks to everyone who contributed to providing this information. Shauna mdavis1175@aol.com
