Check this out: http://babelfish.altavista.com/content/browser.htm I've had the AV Power Tools for some time but never used them. Today I did a German to English translation and it wasn't bad -- not perfect of course but readable, usable, etc. Heck, some web pages written in English are worse than the translation. 3. Another thought on those death certificates. I was always curious just how many of my surname were on file, so I began by requesting a print-out from the fiche for all of one surname. That works well if not a common name like Smith, etc. This way one can catch other members of the families possibly. 1. Re: [ILLOGAN] Naturalization Records
    2. The Logan County G&H has been extracting Naturalization Records as I'm sure you know. They seem to be on Neylon. It could be that they have the whole thing done are are printing it as space permits. I'd certainly ask them. Obviously there is a record and they have access to it. Film? Don't know. The best place to check for that is IRAD. If they have the film [or the original records] and you give them the name they'll do a search. I forget all the details but you should be able to get to them from the Illinois State Archives web site. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

    2. What I thought she was looking for was the archives of the mailing list, the place to find messages you missed for whatever reason or didn't save but now need to see what it said. For example, perhaps I remember Sherry telling us all something about Shoup, maybe even saved it, but can't now find it. [That would be the norm for me. <g>] But I can go to the archives and search for Shoup. Unfortunately they only go back to May but it is a start. But it doesn't hurt to revisit that message either. 3. The Archives only charges for copies, no research charges. One purchases a coupon book for $5.00 when asking for lookups and if a copy is involved they punch the coupon at 50 cents a copy and return it to you for your next request. Only ask for two lookups at a time. They will lookup anything I have mentioned below, including census. In the later Census years...i..e 1880 and later they do require a county/township or city location for a search. 2. I've found my grandfather's naturalization records at my local FHC on a film for Moultrie Co. Nat. Recs (1871-1929). The only film I can find for Logan Co. is for the time period of 1859 thru 1906. My grandfather's brothers were naturalized sometime between 1910 and 1912 in Logan Co. Does film exist for this time period for Logan Co.? Thank you, Carol Elder So. Calif.

    1. Re: [ILLOGAN] Logan Co. Ancestors
    2. Cheryl, is this what you're looking for? I am trying something new, a site known to members of this mailing list but not the general public which will link you, the researcher, to others researching the same family. I hope this will be useful and that you will all send me some of your names to get the ball rolling. This site will not be linked on the main web page. There are more than 150 people on this mailing list. I am hoping if we put our heads together we can learn more. Those who are reluctant to post to the general list can mail to the limited surname group. Check it out and let me know what you think: http://www.rootsweb.com/~illogan/research.htm I have also snagged a free web site where I could put up basic individual lines of Logan County families if everyone is interested. You would have to contribute your lines - I already know mine. <g> I could also put up links to your own web page next to your line - if they find an ancestor they are interested in they could then go to your page for more details. Needless to say, this requires more than a little work so mull it over and tell me what you think, suggestions, ideas, etc. Suggestions and ideas on other items for the web site are always welcome.
