Looks to me like a very good guess. All the families you list are names from around Chestnut and Mt. Pulaski, and all the German Villages of origin seem to be very close together. Would be fun to know a bit of German and spend some time searching old Lutheran Church records in that general area. So it may be Maisenberg rather than Meisenberg where Erhard Stoll family originated. Since all 3 Meisenberg locations are in other states, the only further check would be to find a German map from 1847 to be sure one of the three had not formerly been in Wurttemburg state. Sure appreciate all your help!

I have received a message regarding the 1850 census images. Rootsweb is adding a new server to better serve the growing needs of the genealogy community. While they are getting this server up and going they aren't adding anything new -- such as the rest of the census images. I knew this because we have had other minor problems but I did not connect it with the missing census images. I am assured that as soon as that server is configured and running smoothly the census images will go up. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
Would you please give out the URL for the list of ancestors everyone is submitting. I cleaned some files out a little too deep last night. Joan Black Lund j-lund@uiuc.edu http://staff.uiuc.edu/~j-lund/joan.html For the program I use for genealogy see http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/
Once again Earliene Kaelin has come through and produced a census index for us, this time for the 1840 Logan County census images. She also did the 1850 Logan County census index. She has infinitely more patience than I do for such things. Thanks Earliene! When will the rest of the 1850 census images be up? GOOD question. I have asked and begged and pleaded and it has gotten me ZIP so far. This census has had more than its share of problems and they still continue. I will resume the battle after the holiday. I don't think anyone is listening at the moment. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
> From: George Irwin <girwin35@worldnet.att.net> > > Question: My mother's written notes all say the origin of the Stolls > was Meisenbach. Your record says Maisenbach. Both exist. Any idea how to > determine which is the correct location? Hi George, I used the spelling from the Wuerttemberg Immigration Index. I just thought the German authorities would spell it properly. On the other hand, it's translated into English by Americans, so who knows? However, all but one of the Erhard Stoll family are listed with Maisenbach, Neuenbuerg as their birthplace. Source: Schenk, T.; Froelke, R.; Bork, I.: The Württemberg Emigration Index, Vol. I-V, Ancestry Incorporated, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. (Catalogue-No. G005/1-5) I had some fun with the following excerise: These families, I believe some are collateral families, made application to leave Wuerttemberg from the district of Neuenburg as well: Renschler - Pfinzweiler Renschler - Conweiler Schroth - Maisenbach Stolle - Maisenbach Stoll - Maisenbach Dittus - Schoemberg Dittus - Neuenbuerg Stoll - Waldrennach Rentschler - Calmbach Schroth - Grunbach Leotterle - Grunbach Schroth - Salmbach Rentschler - Igelsloch Rentschler - Schoemberg Rentschler - Dennach Reichstetter - Engelsbrand Go to your favorite mapping site. I like Mapquest for this excercise, at: http://www.mapquest.com/ Select: Online Maps For City, enter: Maisenbach For Country, enter: Germany When you are presented with choices, select the "Baden-Wurttemberg" map. If you choose another method it's about half way between Stuttgard and Strassbourg Zoom in to City level or alittle less. Make the map as large as possible. Click around to move on the map and find the neighboring villages. That's my best guess, for now ...... and I reserve the right to change my mind entirely . ;-D Penny (Richner) Husler

If anyone is in the area... Please note that many of the items mentioned are available in printed form from them. The Sangamon County Genealogical Society board will host an an open house at the society office at 2856 S. 11th St. in Springfield on Saturday November 13, 1999 from 10 am to 3 pm. We will be providing research assistance and will offer our publications for sale the day of the open house. We presently have two microfiche readers and two microfilm readers to use that day. We have the state wide marriage index (1821-1900 for Sangamon County), the death record index (1916-194?) the 1881 History of Sangamon County and an index to the Genealogical Helper Magazine all on microfiche. There are records for birth (1878-1883) including a few records prior to 1878, please be sure to refer to our first birth record book for details about those early birth records, also available that day will be marriage (1821-1899), deaths (1878-1890) and deed records (1822-1832) on microfilm which can be viewed and transcribed but not printed as our machines do not have that capability. Boy do I feel stupid. I was way off on the dates. I did some searching and came up with the dates 1855-56 and being used as long as until 1900. Thanks for your help, Laurie
This groups seems to be very knowledgeable, especially Cheryl. I was wondering if someone could tell me what years tin type began and ended? I have been forwarded and unidentified tin type photo. I would like to get an estimated time frame to help determine who it might be. I know that the earliest known photo is 1839. I compared this photo to that and it looks very similiar. Thank you, Laurie
No, not way off: The daguerreotype, invented in 1837 by the French artist Louis Daguerre, was the first practical form of reproduction in photography. A daguerreotype was made on a silver-plated sheet of copper made light-sensitive by prior exposure to vapors that produced silver iodide... Costly and time-consuming, daguerreotypes were, nevertheless, superbly detailed. The process, although popular, was soon replaced. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

Hello -- I am new to this list. My earliest Logan County ancestor is Charles HARPER, who was said to be a full-blooded Choctaw Indian, born in Mississippi around 1770. He moved to Kentucky where his children were born, and then to Logan County around 1828. Actually Logan County was not yet established at that point; I believe Charles was one of the early settlers in the Lake Fork district. I don't know Charles wife's name but they apparently had quite a number of children. I have documentation for the following: Baldwin HARPER m. Martha BURNS 2nd wife Permelia CARTMELL William HARPER m. Rebecca RIDER 2nd wife Cassandra Rominie Reuben HARPER m. Mariah Low 2nd wife Sarah ? Charles HARPER m. Eveline CARTMELL 2nd wife Sarah ? Samuel HARPER m. Mary Ann CARTMELL Are there any other HARPER researchers out there? I would love to connect. Valorie Anlage __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? My g-g-grandfather, Saul (or Sol) H. Curtis(s) moved his family from Randolph County, Indiana to Logan County, Illinois between 1850 and 1860. My g-grandfather William Wesley Curtis married Eliza Ann Campbell on 27 December 1859 in Lincoln, Logan, Illinois. The 1860 and 1870 census shows them all living in Atlanta Township, Logan, IL. My g-grandfather moved his family to Cherokee County, Kansas between 1870 and 1880. Anyone have information on the Curtis or Campbell families or Logan County between 1850 and 1880? Thanks, Curt
The McHenry County Illinois Genealogical Society (MCIGS) is sponsoring a one-day conference with Cyndi Howell's on October 9, 1999. The deadline for early registration is August 31st, so I thought I'd let everyone know now. There will be no walk-in registrations, so all must be in by September 30th. This will be held at the McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, IL from 8-4. More details and registration form can be found on the MCIGS website: http://www.nsn.org/clkhome/mcigs/ Crystal Lake is north of Chicago, quite a bit north. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

Carolyn, Have we talked? I have the surnames Houser and Arnspiger in my line, first in PA and MD, then into KY, and finally into IL. I descend from John Houser and Mary Ann Arnspiger. --Jan P.S.
