The Tuttle Funeral Home in Atlanta operated in conjunction with the Quiram Funeral Home. Sometimes Quirams used the viewing area at Tuttles. I think the two eventually emerged -- or Quirams may have acquired the former Tuttle home. That might mean Quirams could still have old records. We've consistently found Quirams in Atlanta to be wonderful -- most recently in March, 1999 when my dad died. Things are settling down a bit here, I hope. Have I listed all your names on: http://www.rootsweb.com/~illogan/research.htm I think in the mess [mine] of the last six weeks I lost a couple notes and I want to get the initial Logan ancestors up. If you have a web page of your genealogy I can add a link to it if you want. After we finish this part I am thinking of opening the page to the general public -- any objections? More folks will see the names that way. We get a LOT of visitors these days. At that point we may be able add some of those pesky lines that may not be the initial ancestor to Logan but is a Logan ancestor. {Don't send them just yet because I'll just lose them. I'll give you all notice and you can submit them before I make the page public.} I am afraid it will get out of hand so I am going to leave the requirement up that it be the initial ancestor but maybe I can make some exceptions. <g> Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
That is an Excellent idea. Delores
I'll second that congrats! I just got back from the new site and it looks great. You've done a wonderful job Cheryl. Carol
Here's the address Mary Ann is talking about: http://www.funeralnet.com/search.html I searched for three, found none. However, I tried by location. When I tried by partial name [because they change and incorporate and become a string of names] I was able to locate Fricke's snail mail address and phone. However, if I wanted information back 30 years [and don't we all want all information?] I wouldn't find Schahl. [Fricke bought them and didn't incorporate the name.] Just things to think about when searching... Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
This sight also has a listing of Funeral Homes with their addresses and phone numbers throughout the US for those who might want a funeral home record of the death of their ancestor. Here's another possibly useful URL -- this is the main address for all state listings for veterans cemeteries. It gives snail mail addresses and phone numbers: http://www.funeralnet.com/info_guide/vet_list.html Again, thanks to Mary Ann Kaylor. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
With thanks to Mary Ann Kaylor: This site has Online Indexes of Primary Records. You can find State archives, libraries and other sources where you can search for primary and secondary genealogical records online without subscribing or paying a fee. Worth checking out. http://www.nmgs.org/linkarc.htm Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
I was asked for a good site for the beginning genealogist. I gave her this: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgenweb/sharpen.htm However, I think there may be information there for the more advanced too...lots of links to a variety of good information. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
http://usgennet.org/~alhnilus/logancas.htm This is a bit difficult to read but if you have someone who is on this list of missing or dead in WWII it is worth it. The main table of contents for the state is at: http://usgennet.org/~alhnilus/ww2index.htm Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

The COMPLETE 1850 Logan County census is now up!!!! Finally!! http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/cen_img.htm There is an index to this census [and the 1840 census] on the Logan County web site thanks to Earliene Kaelin. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
There is now a place to search the Social Security Death Index on the main Rootsweb page. http://www.rootsweb.com I tried it today and got more recent deaths than on the one at Ancestry.com. Rootweb claims theirs is better than anyone else's... Check it out and see what you think. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com
Do you think I've been a bit discombobulated lately? Several folks have commented on it. :-> I have been named Central Illinois Regional Coordinator for the ILGenWeb Project. This means I have to keep my eye on 20 counties, mostly to help out if needed. If they don't have a County Coordinator [my title for Logan County] I have to be it. If they aren't managing their mailing lists I have to do it. When all the dust settles -- and we are getting to that point -- I don't think it will be a major task but getting settled in has taken some time. That is why you have seen messages to Logan plus counties you may have never heard of -- I'm not nuts so I don't send the message to each one separately. It also means that I surf to these other counties regularly and sometimes find goodies which I bring back to the Logan page. Logan benefits from this of course. I let them take things from the Logan page too. Genealogy is the main beneficiary of all this. For my own purposes, to speed my surfing to the various counties I need to think about, I made a web page with links to those counties [and a few other links].
