    1. [ILLOGAN] Loetterle & Richner
    2. Penny Husler
    3. I would appreciate some help with some grandparents I seem to have misplaced. I've been collecting folks named RICHNER and LOETTERLE. I will happily share what I have acquired. I can't find any record of a Frederick RICHNER in Illinois in 1860 but his first son was born at the end of June 1863 in Delhi, Jersey Co. That means he had to be in Illinois, no later than, the end of September of 1862 and that isn't leaving much time for courtship. He died in 1871 and was buried in Mt. Pulaski Cemetery. Frederick was born in Switzerland but that's all we know. Did he emigrate with family? Regarding Christianna: What is her maiden name or what city in Germany was she born in? Failing that, what was her first husband's first name and were was he from? Did she emmigrate with him or her own family? This census is the evidence that links the LOETTERLE/RICHNER families. Census relationships are sons and daughter. 1880 Census: Leanna, Logan Co., Illinois - page Richner, Christina 48 Keeps House,[b.Feb 1831] Wrbg-Wrbg-Wrbg, Widow Loetterle, Frederick 28 Farmer [b.Nov 1853] Wrbg-Wrbg-Wrbg " Adam 22 Farmer [b.Aug 1860] IL -Wrbg-Wrbg " Michael 20 Farm hand [b.Feb 1859] IL -Wrbg-Wrbg Richner Mattie 14 at home IL -Wrbg-Wrbg [only record of Mattie] " Henry 12 at home IL -Wrbg-Wrbg " William 10 at school IL -Wrbg-Wrbg " Charles 18 Farm Hand IL -Wrbg-Wrbg Note: There is no overlap in the ages of the children that would indicate stepchildren. ---------------------- 1900 Census (Christina is living with her son, Henry A. Richner, in Decatur, Macon Co., Illinois. Richner, Christina, Feb, 1831, 69, Widow, 8 children, 6 living,Ger,Ger, Ger, Immigrated in 1852, In the US for 48 years. [son Fredrick maintains he immigrated in 1854/5 at the age of 1 year! This census indicates Christina had given birth to 8 children and 6 were still living. "A" William Richner died in 1898. I don't even know if that one was her son, but the inscription from Mt Pulaski Cemetery: William, Son of C. & F. Richner 9/2/1869 - 10/7/1898. If he was her son, the children listed with her in the 1880 Census form the core of this family. I have assembled several LOETTERLE/LETTERLE/LETTERLY/LITTERLY/LEOTTERLE family trees so I could try to recognize relationships. I will post the earliest generation, that I have, of each of them in another email. Thanks very much, Penny (Richner) Husler PHusler@PacBell.net ----------------------

    1. Re: [ILLOGAN] Scully Estates
    2. George Irwin
    3. Thomas Scully was an Irish landowner who came to central Illinois and bought large acreages of raw prairie in northwest Logan County, also near Dwight and east of Springfield, at the time the area was being settled. I believe he may also have had acreage in Kansas. A number of family stories in the 1982 Logan County history recount how the writers' ancestors came to US as laborers to install field tile in Scully lands or to "break" the prairie for farming. A significant number were German background, and the communities of Hartsburg and Emden have large numbers with this background even today. Scully heirs remain owners of the land today, nearly 150 years later, and the land is rented out under a unique form of tenure. Scully leased the land with practically lifetime tenure, so long as the tenant follows certain prescribed farming practices. Tenants may even erect their own buildings on the property. Scully leases also have resale value, I believe. I believe the lease management company is headquartered in Lincoln. The Scully residence I am aware of was northwest of Lincoln about 2-3 miles, and off to the west of Ill.Rte. 121 (now I-155) on the north side of a creek. I believe it was acquired by the Humane Society a couple of decades ago.

    2. Someone has raised a question about the Scully Estates. I know almost nothing. I looked at old plat books and found Scully land in the northwest quadrant of the county -- West Lincoln, Sheridan, Orvil and Prairie Creek Townships. There is a blurb on the Scullys in the most recent Logan County history, came from Ireland, etc. Does anyone know more information on Scully lands, the family, etc. Does anyone know where the family home was located? 1. Re: [ILLOGAN] 1886 History
    2. I appreciate your confidence. Thoughts like that were circulating in my mind too. The problem may be the initial nut, upfront money to cover the printing and such. I am sure they could print the book for $40-50 each. If they get people to order upfront then they could get moving. I'm sure there are at least ten people here who would do that without even thinking about it. A good portion of this list has joined the LCGHS. If people would EMAIL me [off list please] this week and say if they would be willing to participate I am willing to approach them with the idea. I need to talk with them about a couple of things so it might be a good time to do it. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

    1. [ILLOGAN] 1870 Census Index for Illinois
    2. http://www.heritagequest.com/genealogy/CD-ROM/html/il.html This is an AD for a CD of an INDEX of the entire 1870 Illinois census. It contains: "over 730,500 entries. It lists the heads of households for all 1870 counties and cities in Illinois, plus every male over age 50, every female over age 70, and all persons with other surnames in the households. Entries include name, age, sex, race, birthplace, locale, and county, and source microfilm roll and page numbers." It does NOT contain the record itself. This is NOT an endorsement, just letting you know what is available. I personally would not buy it since I only need one county. If my ancestors were scattered across the state in 1870 I might consider it. This company also has some census records on CD but their databases were broken when I attempted to access them to see exactly what that meant and how it works. 3. Marilyn, Carrie's father is Richard BIRKS the suspected mother is Cynthia MCCRACKEN (BUT that is purely speculation at this time). Did I send you my genealogy report? If not, let me know. It covers Richard, Jeremiah, and Sarah's lines. If so, then you should be able to find Carrie on it fairly easy. It would be after Richard's notes. Anyone else wishing to have this report (contains 6 generations of the above mentioned ancestors) let me know and I will gladly send it to you. Laurie
