    2. For those who don't know, another piece of information: Lake Bank Cemetery is outside of Latham. If you want to know where a cemetery is located you can can always check the cemetery list on the web site and and/or consult the map there. http://www.rootsweb.com/~illogan/locem.htm Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

    2. What a remarkable achievement! For those of you who don't know, this is a cemetery out in the middle of nowhere and, as I told Mary Ann, the last time I was out there I was by myself and I got the willies and left. The wind was singing in the trees and I just couldn't handle it. It is also an active cemetery so just when you think you are done it can change. Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

    1. [ILLOGAN] Lake Bank Cemetery
    2. Bill Radtke
    3. I have just finished indexing Lake Bank Cemetery. I have listed every name on every stone in the cemetery. I have 782 names or listings. They are in alphabetical order, and according to where the stones are located in the cemetery. I did this for my own information, because I wanted a list in front of me instead of always searching the cemetery. I would be glad to share the list or look up names for anyone who may need information. Mary Ann

    3. Happy Thanksgiving to you all..... I had ordered copies of naturalization papers for 2 of my g.grandparents this spring and when they were sent, it was a copy of the whole page with several others on there too( not related). Last night while 'cleaning house' I came across one of Daniel Stewart, declaring his intent in 1868, Logan Co. from Scotland. Anyone have him in their line. Have no idea where in Logan Co. My main lines are in Springfield, Sangamon Co. area and they are the Cumming family who came to USA in 1852. David Cumming m. Helen Stewart in 1844 in Newton Scotland and her father was DANIEL STEWART, but never connected him as coming over after his daughter and family - figured he probably was dead by then. But now I am wondering if it were possible he did immigrate - but can't figure out why to Logan Co. when the family was some 60 mi. away. Just a long shot, but whooooo knows. These were the 'others' I have (not mine) on the same pages: Max Vogelsang - Baden, Germany - 'intent' 1862 Andreas Armbrust - Bavaria - intent 1863 Charles Saup - Wurttenberg, Germany 'intent' 1868 E. Subbers - Prussia - intent 1876 If anyone wants these please contact me. Marilyn - Fla

    1. [ILLOGAN] Tennessee Ancestors?
    2. http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/death2.htm INDEX TO TENNESSEE DEATH RECORDS 1908 - 1912 : AN INTRODUCTION Registrations of births and deaths began in 1908 in Tennessee. This index covers nearly 98,000 deaths occurring in Tennessee and recorded between 1908 and 1912. Although deaths were not registered as carefully and regularly as they were beginning in 1914, the index includes all extant records. The index includes the name of the deceased, county, year of death and certificate number. This information can be used to order a copy of the death certificate from the Tennessee State Library and Archives. If no year of death was given on the certificate, it is noted in this index as "1908-12". Children with no given name are listed under "infant". Death records in this time period do not give parents' names. They do include the individual's age, occupation, place of birth and cause of death. Names have been transcribed as found on the original record, and may include spelling errors. There may also have been typographical errors made in preparing this index. If you see an error of this type, please notify us by email. A sample death certificate is available for viewing on our website. A Partial Index to Tennessee Death Records 1914 - 1925 is available on our website. There are no statewide birth or death records in Tennessee for 1913. A new law was passed at that time, to be effective in 1914, and consequently vital statistics were not recorded in 1913. - -------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

    1. [ILLOGAN] New Rootsweb GEDCOM Project
    2. RootsWeb issued the following press release this week: RootsWeb.com, http://www.rootsweb.com, the Internet's oldest and largest genealogy site, today launched a new Genealogical Data Communication (GEDCOM) hosting program entitled the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com. "In the 4 weeks of its beta test period, users have uploaded more than 5.5 million names to the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project," stated Dr. Brian Leverich, Founder and Chairman of the Board, RootsWeb.com, Inc. GEDCOM is a standard file format developed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enables the exchange of information among genealogy software programs. RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project allows individuals, in a very simple, user-friendly way, to upload, revise, delete and download GEDCOMs on RootsWeb. The RootsWeb WorldConnect Project is hailed as the most user friendly and unrestricted of its kind on the Web. Unlike with other Web sites, RootsWeb users have complete control over their GEDCOMs and can change or remove them at any time. RootsWeb will never burn a user's GEDCOM onto a CD-ROM or charge others to access it. RootsWeb's software is the newest, most comprehensive and advanced available on the Web. Key features allow users to: * Upload a GEDCOM file generated by ANY of the major software applications WITHOUT first having to convert the file to HTML; * Revise or delete GEDCOMs as well as change the display or download options at any time; * Link the GEDCOM to a home page; * Screen or remove information about living individuals from the GEDCOM; * Attach Post-Em notes both from the GEDCOM originator and from other RootsWeb users to the record of a particular individual, similar to the Post-Em Notes in Rootsweb's Social Security Death Index; * Link a GEDCOM to other GEDCOMs using Post-Ems; * Download subsets (portions) of the original GEDCOM, starting with a specific person and choosing either ancestors or descendants; and * Display GEDCOMs in the most highly flexible ways available on the Web. A user need not have a Web site or even Internet access to post a GEDCOM. RootsWeb will accept GEDCOMs on floppy disks or ZIP drive disks. Users having trouble uploading a GEDCOM for any reason should send it on a floppy disk or ZIP disk to: RootsWeb WorldConnect Project, 1001 Tower Way, Suite #120, Bakersfield, CA 93309. RootsWeb will upload the GEDCOM and send notification by e-mail of such user's account name and password. RootsWeb's default display choice is to remove the names of everyone in a user's GEDCOM who was born within the past 100 years. Thereafter, the user can change the viewing options at any time by going to http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com. Users should remember to enclose an e-mail address with the disk containing the GEDCOM or RootsWeb will have no way to notify them regarding their account name and password. Please also note that RootsWeb will destroy the disks it receives after uploading the GEDCOMs they contain. "Our GEDCOM program has been months in the making and was developed by some of the most talented programmers in the business," said Dr. Leverich. "The display capabilities set a new standard. This new feature reinforces RootsWeb's leadership position in the rapidly expanding online genealogical community which we helped to create and continue to define." "RootsWeb prides itself on being the consumer's friend. You will never see it taking the hard work of RootsWeb users and burning that information into a CD-ROM or charging others to access," said Dr. Leverich. "In addition, users have FULL control of their GEDCOMs and can change or remove them at any time." Cheryl Rothwell clrothwell@mindspring.com

    1. [ILLOGAN] More Names in FamilySearch
    2. >From Dick Eastman's current online genealogy newsletter: - LDS FamilySearch.org To Add 240 Million New Names There hasn't been any official announcement, but two Salt Lake City newspapers report that the Mormon's popular online Web site will add a lot more records to their online database on Monday. The addition of 240 million new names will mean that a total of 640 million records will now be available at http://www.familysearch.org. In addition, FamilySearch plans early next year to index the new Pedigree Resource File (PRF), a database of family history records being uploaded to the site by users. Only the index is expected to be online. The files containing PRF data will be available on a set of CD-ROM disks. The PRF, already listing more than 5 million names, is projected to grow at the rate of 1.2 million names per month. 3. Hi Judy, Here are some Hornbeck pages to get you started, http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~hornbeck/hsrc/home.htm http://www.3-cities.com/~gjansen/westfall.htm#HORNBECK http://members.aol.com/dovelion/genealogy/cutright.htm#Links http://www.swcp.com/~dhickman/articles/hornbek.html http://www.gengateway.com/listings/sites/1028.html http://www.s-hornbeck.com/ http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/u/t/John-O-Cutright/index.html http://www.webpan.com/doutberg/genealog.y/gedcom/ind0082.htm I've been working on this surname for the last 3 days, thanks to a nice genealogical boost from Mary Ann Radtke. My Logan County link to Hornbeck looks like this: The first link needs certification of some sort, I have a 10 year age difference in my only 2 references to Sarah. I don't like loose ends but it's an interesting and well documented family anyway. Sarah E. Gassaway married Nicholas W Howe = Ross Co., OH (my GG grandparents) moved to Lake Fork Sarah's parents: Sarah Cutright m. Thomas Gassaway = born Ross Co., OH, d. McLean Co., IL 2 Gas[s]aways married 2 Cutrights Sarah Cutright's parents: William Cutright born Bourbon, KY & Hannah Neff Ross Co., OH 3 Neffs married 3 Cutrights William's parents: John Cutright and Elizabeth Subre John Cutright's parents: Kendrick Kortreck/Cutright & Elizabeth Hornbeck 3 Hornbecks married 3 Cutrights Elizabeth's parents: Johannes Hornbeck b. 1685 Hurley NY; died Hampshire Co., VA wife: Orseltje(Urseltje) Westbroek/Westbrook, born Kingston, Ulster, NY back a couple more generations and you arrive at Van Hoornbeecke Hope this gets you going. I'm sure you'll find the desenting opinions, as to the sources of these families, along the way. 1. [ILLOGAN] New at FamilySearch.org
    2. >From the current edition of Dick Eastman's online genealogy newsletter: - FamilySearch.org Updated The very popular LDS FamilySearch.org Web site has a few new capabilities. Visitors to the site can now search by: * Event (All, Birth/Christening, Marriage, Death/Burial, Other) * Year Range (None, Exact Year, + or - 2 years, + or - 5 years, + or -10 years, + or - 20 years) * Specific Year * Countries (All Countries or select one from list) * State * Ancestral File Number (AFN) * An option to search for only exact spellings Other recent changes include the ability to download a GEDCOM from Ancestral File search results. This allows users to import information directly into their own genealogy software. (Never import such data into your primary database! Always create a new, empty database and import into that. Once you have examined the quality of the new data, you may decide to import it into your primary database.) The FamilySearch.org Web site also has over 43,000 new and updated titles added to the Family History Library Catalog. There are new Pedigree Resource disks and collaboration lists available as well.
