    3. I don't know and I don't think you can gather anything from the wording of pleadings. There's always a way to say something and make it better [or worse] than it is. "that during the whole of his said married life, your orator has treated the said Eliza C. Pierce in a proper, kind and indulgent manner..." We still say garbage like that today and it is still baloney. <g> Hell hath no fury and all that. What happened to her after that? Did she marry Milo? Is the attorney Hobbitt or Hoblit? I suspect Hoblit. It's probably "being fully advised in the premises..." 2. Hi, If anyone on the list has access to the 1900 Census of Logan County, could they please look for Anna Munyon, born 29 Jan 1884 Mt. Pulaski, IL. Her Father would be George Munyon and her Mother was Susan Enman/Inman. The 1920 Census should show Anna married to Walter LaRue with a son Gerald, born 1912. Thank you for any help you can give me. Warm Regards, Lois Branch

    3. I just answered this on the DeWitt list. This Turner is the brother of Allen Turner whose daughter Mary married Thomas Lucas. The Turners themselves were predominately in Menard County and in DeWitt just over the line from Logan. If anyone else is researching these Turners I'll repeat myself. Otherwise I'll just do it in one place. I suggest you look at the web site because they have certain requirements and if you don't follow their instructions your $10 could get you nothing. 3. I have been reliably informed that the State Archives does NOT have the Logan County pages of the Illinois State Census for 1845. It does have 1855 and 1865. They do have a card file with the names of those in those censuses and can generally find the page with your ancestor on it for you. IF you live in Illinois you can order the records free online at: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/refform.html Cheryl Rothwell [email protected] Logan County ILGenWeb www.rootsweb.com/~illogan Central IL Regional Coordinator, ILGenWeb Clark, Downing, Harding, Lucas, et al

    1. [ILLOGAN] More Copyright Craziness
    2. Cheryl Rothwell
    3. I've been moaning about the stupid Sonny Bono copyright laws. Now there's this. He doesn't say which idiot in Congress is responsible this time. I found out it is COBLE, SMITH of Texas, HOBSON, GREENWOOD, TAUZIN and SENSENBRENNER. The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 2004 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. Information about the newsletter is available at http://www.eogn.com <http://www.eogn.com/>. - Proposed Legislation Would Wreak Havoc for Genealogists A new bill before the U.S. Congress proposes to overturn one of the most fundamental concepts of the present copyright laws. If passed, facts would become copyrighted for the first time in U.S. history. The Database and Collections of Information Misappropriation Act (HR3261) would make it a crime for anyone to copy and redistribute a substantial portion of data collected by commercial database companies and list publishers. At first, that sounds like a good idea. However, a bit more thought shows that nobody would be able to republish stock quotes, historical health data, sports scores, or voter lists. In fact, a lot of genealogy information could not be republished. If passed, Google and all the other search engines would be crippled, probably driven out of business. These are online databases that collect information, or facts, from other online sites so that the user can quickly find the information they seek. If Google and the others are not allowed to collect facts that are now copyrighted, how will they be able to index the Web for you? Art Brodsky, spokesman for public advocacy group Public Knowledge, says the bill would let anyone drop a fact into a database or a collection of materials and claim monopoly rights to it. This would contradict the core principle of the Copyright Act, which states that mere information and ideas cannot be protected works. Let's say that a commercial genealogy service such as Ancestry.com or OneGreatFamily.com publishes the fact that your great-great-grandparents had a child named John. Once that "fact" has been published by any commercial service, that original publisher would hold the copyright on the fact, and no one else would be allowed to publish it again. The Family History Library, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Genealogical Publishing Company, and others would be prohibited from publishing that information again in any of their online or printed works. In fact, private individuals would similarly be barred from publishing the information in their own derivative works. If a commercial site publishes a fact about your ancestors, you would not be able to place that fact on your own Web site or in any book or report that you give to others. The language in this proposed legislation contradicts the core principle of the present copyright acts, which state that mere information and ideas cannot be protected works.

    3. Garland, It's possible, it'll just take the right find here. Again, the Montgomery's found on the 1850 Census are of interest to me, as I lose John & Matilda after 1840. They most probably were married in Ohio, and if they followed all together, then they left Ohio prior to 1820, to Rush Co. INDIANA, and then about 1831 to Waynesville, DeWitt, and the surrounding area in the other 2 counties. Other families tied to this Jones family are CRUM, TURNER, MONTGOMERY, JONES, ISHAM, MICHAELS, THOMAS and BAYLESS. Here is the 1840 DeWitt return 1m 10-15, 1m 20-30, 1m 30-40, 2f under5, 1f 5-10, 2f 10-15, 2f 15-20, 1f 40-50 John

    3. I am very interested in anyone researching the MONTGOMERY Families found in DeWitt, Logan or Mc Lean Counties. I am researching the JONES Family, and I have John & Matilda on the 1840 but can't locate anywhere after that. There are several Montgomeries in all 3 counties, and at present I'm most likely to consider a couple of them in Mc Lean County. Here's my research, and if you can help or are researching, or even a descendant, please contact me!!! The Jones family came from SW OHIO, to Rush Co. INDIANA, and then by about 1831 came to De Witt. Thanks, John 1. JOHN1 MONTGOMERY He married MATILDA JONES, daughter of PETER JONES and MARY BRANSON. She was born Abt. 1803. 3. John, I have been researching Montgomery in Logan and Menard counties. Many came from Gibson Co., IN. I have not been able to connect my David Thomas Montgomery (2g grandfather) with any of them. His birth would appear to be in Indiana from census record information.
