    3. That is the only Phebe Lucas who is the daughter of Abraham Lucas. One of my descents from Abraham Lucas is through Phebe Lucas and Solomon Wood. She died between 1839 [birth of last child] and 1847 [Solomon's marriage to Rhoda Turman] in Corwin Township, Logan County, IL. She probably died closer to 1840 but there is no proof and records from that period are non existant. Undoubtedly she was buried in what is now Lucas Chapel Cemetery since Solomon owned the land at the time. All of the stones in the old section are gone. Marcy Kelsey died in August of 1835 in Mt. Pulaski Township, Sangamon now Logan County. Sarah Wood was probably born in 1826 just before they left Greene County, OH. Berryman was born Dec. 22, 1834, in Corwin Township, Sangamon now Logan County. I believe all the children born in Illinois were born in Corwin Township. Solomon first bought land there on November 20, 1826. Joel was born in 1833. I have not seen anything on him after 1850 when he was living with Rev. Michael Mann. After Solomon's early death [April 18, 1848] the minor children were scattered except for the infant Solomon who went with his mother. On the subject of Leigh Willard Lucas who married Winifred Irene Obermiller on April 21, 1915, he was the son of George Thomas and Ida Agnes Whitesides Lucas. George Thomas was the son of Caleb Kelsey and Ellen Caroline Scroggin Lucas. Caleb was the son of John T. and Sarah Bowman Lucas. John T. was the son of Abraham and Marcy Kelsey Lucas. I don't know if they had any children either. 3. I just couldn't stand it. <g> I did a search of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record Index for 1870-1998. The Vandevenders/Vandeventers in Logan County came through New Amsterdam [New York] originally, then to Virginia, Tennessee and up through southern Illinois to Logan County by 1828. There are absolutely no Vandevenders in that index, plenty of Vandeventers. This leads me to suspect that Vandeventer is the original spelling, actually Van Deventer. At some point in time it became Vandeventer and then, for some, Vandevender. I also believe I have found the connection between Anna Vandeventer who married John Buckles and the Vandevenders we were discussing earlier. I will be putting this all together at a later date and I will share it. Now I can get back to what I was doing. 3. Harrison was born Dec 29, 1888, almost undoubtedly in Chester Township, Logan County, the son of William Henry Vandevender and Emma Isabelle Vail. He married Eunice Naomi Shyer. He died July 12, 1944. Clifford married a month later and I think everyone that was left lived together on the homeplace. Information relating to living people should not be exchanged on the list. I have no data on him at all; William was born 24 Feb 1842 in Chester Township, Logan, IL; died 15 May 1924 Salt Lake Creek, Logan; md to Emma 23 Nov 1871 in Logan Co. Emma was my great-grandmother. 3. You know Sandi, my grandfather said some of the Vandevenders were Vandevenders and some were Vandeventers -- and I frankly assumed there was just some confusion about the spelling. There was also a separate Vandeventer line. Vandevender and Vandeventer were pronounced quite differently. van DE venter and vandevender. I am always looking for more things for the web site. I am rather behind due to the packing and the moving and the disaster in getting settled but I expect to start getting caught up shortly. I have about 100 obits to put up when I can. 3. I have as an ancestor on Abraham Vandeventer who married Mary Jones and produced, ca 1775 and obviously not in Logan County, Anna Vandeventer. She married John Buckles and is the mother of the Logan County Buckles clan. I have another Abraham Vandeventer, Jr., who is are likely related [based on locations and dates] and possibly is the son of the first one [now that I am looking at it - I have never looked at the Vandeventers that closely before], whose son Andrew married Nancy Downing in Logan County. Nancy was the daughter of Thomas Downing of the Timothy Downing line. His son John married Mary "Polly" Downing in Logan County [then Sangamon]. She was the daughter of John Downing of the James Downing line. I am descended from BOTH of these apparently unrelated Downing lines. Let me also toss in here, for lurkers, that there were VandevenDers and VandevenTers in Mt. Pulaski. Perhaps there were pictures made later in their lives. I'd put in a "looking for" request to the Logan County G&H and also to the Mt. Pulaski Historical Society. Both have old pictures, not all of which are identified. This is a good place to put in a plug to make copies of your old pictures, identify them as much as you can, send the copies to the Logan County G&H and, if appropriate, also to the Mt. Pulaski Historical Society. Do future researchers that favor.
