1. [ILLIVING] Surname Index of Livingston Co Records
2. hi, My progress has been slowed down by my inability to operate the keyboard while munching on popcorn... wish i could do both at the same time, but the popcorn has the definite higher priority! Livingston Co, Illinois Genealogical Research is the url for anyone who'd like to check out the web page. The "Placenames of Livingston County" now includes Schoolhouses, Towns, Townships, and Waterways and will soon include libraries, with addresses, and newspapers. Schoolhouses were just added so there aren't many yet but the location is described as well as the years of use. Amazing how many towns there were and how useful it has been in finding the soldiers of the Civil War in the on line sites. A detailed US history timeline is in the works, complete with a source for every entry... with every major Civil War battle included... would like to now begin adding events of Illinois and Livingston County. This is something anyone could copy for their personal use and insert their own family's vital records (b,m,d) into it so as to personalize it... and hopefully get a younger generation interested in bringing history to life? Does anyone have a chronology of events they could e-mail me or advise me of the url if its on line? Plan on beginning the long process of inserting the sources of information today, and here's what the surname index will soon begin to look like: Work is now underway to eventually make this a master surname index of all public records of Livingston County. Beginning mid July you'll be able to look at some surnames and immediately know what years the family lived in the county and the source of that information, beginning with the oldest families. Each decade of history will be represented by a progressive number, so 1837=3, 1845=4, 1851=5, etc. Numbering system:___type of record: 1800-1809 = 0_______a=Associations & Societies 1810-1819 = 1_______b=Baptismal Records 1820-1829 = 2_______c=Biographies 1830-1839 = 3_______d=Birth Index 1840-1849 = 4_______e=Burial Index & Cemeteries 1850-1859 = 5_______f=Census Records 1860-1869 = 6_______g=Churches/Membership Rolls 1870-1879 = 7_______h=Courthouses & Clerks 1880-1889 = 8_______i=Deaths/Mortality Schedules/Obits 1890-1899 = 9_______j=Historical Accounts 1900-1909 = 10______k=Immigration & Naturalization 1910-1919 = 11______l=Land and Deed Records 1920-1929 = 12______m=Marriage Index 1930-1939 = 13______n=Membership Rolls 1940-1949 = 14______o=Military Records 1950-1959 = 15______p=Newspapers 1960-1969 = 16______q=Queries 1970-1979 = 17______r=Records not listed above 1980-1989 = 18______s=Schools/Yearbooks 1990-1999 = 19______t=Tax Records 2000-2010 = 20______z=Miscellaneous A letter following this number would be the type of information, a second number would be the source. Example: if you see: Abbaduska, 4f6 You'd know the surname was recorded on a document that originated in the 1840-1849 range and would look for source "f" to find your source is a census, and going to footnote #6 would find its the 1840 US Census Livingston County, IL, extraction and where to obtain a copy. Below is a list of how the name was spelled or transcribed on various documents. As of 15Jul2001 if you don't see the name you are looking for it only means i haven't gotten around to recording every single name yet... i'll be happy to add any name as long as you tell me what is your source of information (where you got the information). To see who is currently being added just scroll down to the last footnote on sources (for quicker lookups use your Ctrl+F and "End" keys): Surname, Decade/Record Type/Source of Information Aapkins, Aaron, Aarvig, Aarving My desire is to build something that will encourage new researchers and others to look into Livingston County and make connections with everyone who's been there and done that. Eventually this will lead to a full name index for the county. It won't be done overnight and will take some time as accuracy is most important... and i hope to concentrate on the older records first. Maybe genealogical activity in the county will then be compared to popcorn popping? Reminds me that's its time for more popcorn so... happy hunting, dennis in reply to: > Hi Dennis, > > I visited you Livingston County Research site and was > very impressed with the plans for the page.
