hi, Please forgive the delay in answering as i subscribe in digest form and don't always see the questions the same day they are posted. Right now about all i can do is offer the free service of posting surnames of those who lived in the county, there isn't room on my present web page to offer sources for each name. My hope is to have room in the future and having a system in place where we could all FREELY look at an index of thousands of surnames and see something like this: Surname---Source ADAMS,1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,12,13 ADDAMS,3,4,11,12,13,14 ADDUMS,4,5,6,10 ADDUMSES,5,12 Sources 1=1850 US Census Livingston Co, IL LDS FHL Film#001234 2=1860 US Census Livingston Co, IL LDS FHL Film#002345 3=1870 US Census Livingston Co, IL LDS FHL Film#003456 4=1878 Livingston Co IL Biographies by Stretching DaTruth 5=1880 US Census Livingston Co, Ill NARA #G246 6=1889 Livingston Co, IL Telephone Directory by A G Bell In the beginning it won't answer detailed questions like, "What page is it on," or "Who were the neighbors," or "how many times does the family appear and on what pages," yet hopefully page numbers could be added in the future. For now it would just be a beginning, especially on those very unusual surnames... but at least it would point someone in the right direction, where prior to this we had nothing to point the way. For the present all i can do is show there is proof a family with a certain surname lived in the county... if everyone matches up to SMITH, JONES, WILSON and JOHNSON there's not much i can do or say about that... i can offer my professional services to anyone who either can't or won't do the work themselves and would rather pay for it. happy hunting dennis in reply to: From: "eleanore" <eleanore@ntwrks.com> To: ILLIVING-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ILLIVING] Towns & Townships of Livingston Co Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2001 19:47:55 -0400 Dennis, I just saw your website. I found 11 surnames that are in my genealogy. How would I find out if there is any more information on these names from your source? If information is available, is there a charge for you furnishing it? I grew up in Pontiac and graduated from high school there. Additionally each township shows a listing of every town within its boundaries with former town names included, and the 1980 population, the site is at: Livingston Co, Illinois Genealogical Research BTW i'm also compiling a huge list of surnames of families known to have lived in the county at the site, its available to everyone to use and freely add to it, provided a source is given for the information (in other words, where did the information come from? Ex: Rumplestiltskin (IGI), Boothe (1860 Census), Lincoln (1855 State Census). I'm hoping this will make it easier for researchers to find the families who later went west to follow Horace Greeley's advice. Here's a list of a few towns that existed but i can't nail down the precious location and hope someone out there could at least identify the appropriate township. It would be nice to know the years each was most active and your source of information, so i can bring the list up-to-date: Unknown Twp = Adams, Billing's Grove, Bluegrass, Cardiff Junction, Chicago and Alton Junction, Clay, Cottagedale, Currier's Grove, Dimmick, Five Mile Grove, Germanville, Glenwood Mills, Healy, Hickory Point, McClary, McGowan Corssing, McGowans, Murphy Station, Norman, North Cornell, Owego, Pontiac Junction, Richmond, Rookside, Round Grove, Saxony, Scattering Point, Smith's Mound, South Point, Stoddards, Streator Junction, Sullivan Centre, Tucker's Ford, Waldo, Wilson, Windtown I'm finishing up work on the rivers, creeks, and streams which will be added as soon as AOL figures out why we are having difficulty updating web pages :) than dennis _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
