    1. Re: [ILLIVING] GERMAN EVANGELICAL CHURCH
    2. Hi Dottie, I am researching the family of Adam DILLER and his wife, Elizabeth BERGE, my gg grandparents. Elizabeth BERGE was born about 27Jun 1824 somewhere in Mecklenburg, Germany (information from census reports). She died 9 Jul 1869 in Otter Creek (now part of South Streator, Livingston Co., I think), La Salle County. Elizabeth was first buried in the Barnhart Cemetery (once known as Basore Cemetery) and later moved to Riverview Cemetery in Streator to lay beside her husband, Adam DILLER. Adam died 15 August 1885 in Otter Creek. (He owned 320 acre farm in Otter Creek Twp. & belonged to the German Evangelical Church-don't know where that is located). Adam DILLER was born 14 Mar 1822; we believe in Hannover, Saxony, Germany based on his different answers on each different census report. We believe they came from Germany in the 1840s. They appear on the Bruce Twp (now Streator), LaSalle County, IL 1850 Federal Census with their son Frederick who was 2 years old. Adam and Elizabeth's children were Frederick, Charles & Dorethea (twins), Augusta, Elizabeth "Leah" Cora, Caroline, Mary/May E, Emmaline R & Emma (twins), William, George, Clara E & Fred R (twins), and Charlotte A. After Elizabeth's death Adam married Fredrica A Iserman widow of William Iserman. Fredrica was born about 18 Sep 1827 in Hanovic, Hessdaste, Germany and died 12 Feb 1875. There is a grave in the Barnhart Cemetery for Adam Henri Diller son of Adam & Elizabeth Diller born May 28 1874 and died July 13, 1874. If the parents are correct then the year of death would be wrong. If the year of death is correct then Adam Henri would have been Adam and Fredrica Iserman Diller's child. After Fredrica died, Adam married Caroline Kitzsman who was born about Sept 1848 in Prussia. She immigrated to America in 1874. Their children were Adam E., Edward C., Ada, and Elmer. I found a list of the people buried in Barnhart Cemetery, Otter Creek and find a Dorodea BERGE wife of August BERGE died 18 Jun 1865 at age 44 years. That would make August BERGE probably the age to be a brother of Elizabeth BERGE DILLER. I don't know if Elizabeth and Adam were married in Germany and came to America together or if they met here in America and married here. I have found the BERGE/BERG name in and around Ottawa, La Salle Co., IL. Some of these people list their birthplaces as Germany and others list their birthplaces as Norway. I am very confused and thought maybe the church records would shed some light on the problem. From the Charles Benckendorf piece on page 753 of Hoffman's La Salle Co History it states that Adam had held some public offices, voted Republican and belonged to the German Evangelical Church. I don't have the rest of the article, just the paragaraph describing Charles' wife Caroline Diller's parents. I would greatly appreciate any information that you might be able to give. Thank you, Charolette Gould Brown "Chocy" Sacramento, California (Granddaughter of Benjamin Reddington GOULD & Maud Elizabeth RITTER GOULD of Long Point, Livingston Co., Illinois. Maud was the daughter of Jacob Henry RITTER and Emmaline R DILLER the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth BERGE DILLER)
