For Karen and others: Regarding how to obtain marriage records from Livingston Co., IL, write a letter asking for the marriage license, using the information you obtained from the on-line marriage index including the parties' names, marriage date, license number and anything else you can provide. I strongly suggest you ask also for the marriage license application. When you get into the 1880 period, you get applications which provide the parents' names for bride and groom, including both mothers' maiden names, birthplaces, etc. I just did this in February, and unfortunately the person responding said "There is no application with this marriage record." Such wording is very confusing. Does she mean no application is filed WITH the marriage record or license in the same book or file drawer? Or does she mean there is no application filed elsewhere - and I have seen them in the past down in the basement. I wrote a second letter and got the following comment: "As I stated before! There IS NO APPLICATION with this marriage record." I sent $10 with each of my letters and they returned the second $10. The address is: County Clerk's Office, Livingston Co. Courthouse, 112 W. Madison St., Pontiac, IL 61764-1871 U.S.A. I hope you have better luck than I did. I may try to get up there this summer, about 130 miles from home. Linda Kmiecik Girard, IL
