With reference to Linda Kmiecik's message on today's list, by coincidence I had just requested a copy of a marriage license issued in 1882 in Livingston County, IL. I also requested that if an application for this license was on file, to also send a copy of it. I have found that it is worthwhile to ask for both of these documents if available. This is my first request in Illinois, but I have found in Nebraska for instance that the marriage certificate on file in the 1880's in one county I am researching gave the names of both sets of parents and included the maiden names of both mothers. On an 1883 certificate I requested in Alabama there was a copy of a note handwritten by the bride's father giving his permission for the wedding. This was my first clue to her father's given name and also indicated that she was quite young, giving me an idea of the date of her birth. Just tho't I'd pass this on as every little clue helps.
