    3. For Rose Adams and perhaps others: I have a Margaret McGuire who married William Lightholder, date and place unknown. They lived from perhaps 1847 through the later 1850s in the town of Milton, Saratoga Co., NY. Their children were born in Saratoga Co. in 1848, 1851, 1853, and 1856 and baptized at the Church of St. Peter, Saratoga Springs, and the youngest son was born in Peoria Co., IL c. 1863. The family is on the 1860 Richwoods Twp., Peoria Co. federal census, and on the 1865 Radnor Twp., Peoria Co. state census. In 1870 they were in Chenoa, McLean Co. federal census, and in 1880 on the Esmen Twp., Livingston Co., IL federal census. In the 1880s the family is believed to have lived in Saunemin, Livingston Co. William died in 1888 and Margaret in 1894, and both were buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Pontiac. Both William and Margaret were born in Ireland, according to various censuses. Further, William's 1851 citizenship intention paper, filed in Saratoga Co., NY, says he was born in County "Made", which I believe is County Meath pronounced with a brogue. There were other McGuire people living in Saratoga Co., NY at this time, in the towns of Halfmoon, Saratoga Springs, and Waterford, with others in adjacent Albany Co. (town of Albany mainly). John Richards, a man of some means, and the witness for William Lightholder's Oath of Allegiance in 1853, also lived in the town of Milton. Among the laborers living in Richards' household in 1850 and 1855 was Patrick McGuire, born Ireland, age 30 in 1850 and 35 in 1855. It is possible Patrick was a brother to Margaret (McGuire) Lightholder who was 29 in 1855. Other Irish immigrants appear in Richards' household during various censuses. It seems probable that Richards (a Protestant) acted as a sponsor to various Irish immigrants, perhaps even paying for their passage, in return for their labor for several years. Lastly, a Mary McGuire was a sponsor at the child John Lightholder's 1853 baptism. Other connected surnames in NY are Waters, Kenney, Deo, Daley, and Kelly. Two of the Lightholder children married Browns from Saunemin, children of Edward and Elizabeth (Murray) Brown who were also Irish immigrants and Catholic. If any of this connects, please get in touch. Linda (Lightholder) Kmiecik tonky@ctnet.net
