Sue, Attached is the message I posted regarding Remington in Fairbury. I do not know if there is any connection between your William Todden (son of) and my Remingtons. But I would be interested in pursuing this further with you. If you have additional information about the Toddens (eg. wife's or mother's maiden name, and dates for instance), this may help. My Grandmother in law just passed away this year in that nursing home she got great care but her stuff kept being stolen. She wasn't even gone but an hour and someone had taken the afghan that I had made her. But the staff was very nice and helpful. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Valletta1@aol.com> To: <ILLIVING-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 02, 2000 2:28 PM Subject: Re: [ILLIVING] More POORHOUSE Information > This is a very nice nursing home. We would like to invite you to visit (or re-visit)our website called The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com Linda Kmiecik shared information about the LIVINGSTON MANOR nursing home which was formerly the County Farm or Poor Farm. We would like to learn whether this still operates ... and, most important, whether the old records which were accessable there in the early 1980s have been kept there or moved someplace else (i.e. County Historian?). Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. If you have never visited the site, DIRECTIONS: at the homepage (link above)click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on OTHER STATES, then on ILLINOIS on the table of states. If you scroll to just below the photographs of various Illinois county poorhouses, you will find the link to Linda's notes. We hope you enjoy the site! Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. I highly recommend that you subscribe in DIGEST mode, most of the lists are proving to very high volume. (Instructions below) How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to XX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L-request@rootsweb.com (Remove the XX and replace it with your state abbreviation, see below) to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to XX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-D-request@rootsweb.com to start receiving digests. Good Luck in your research and enjoy the lists ;) CENSUS-LOOKUP Lists were Established 11 October 2000 Guidelines for posting to the lists: EMAIL SUBJECT LINES: COUNTY,YEAR,SURNAME NO FLAMING or you will be unsubbed without notice. By this I mean not only being rude or mean to each other but there will be NO and I do mean NO debating here about the Census Projects. This list is for everyone who wants to research. NO General requests such as "all Smiths in all counties" Be specific, Name the County, Family you are looking for and also the year. Try to supply as much info as possible. LIMIT your requests to ONE PER CENSUS YEAR and SURNAME My Mama taught me that Thank you and Please are always nice too :) MOST IMPORTANTLY Hang in there and don't get discouraged if your not answered right away, these lists will be a great asset to our research as they continue to grow. I am encouraging everyone to send this email to their surname and county mailing lists as well as to our cousins. Finally, If you have the material to help a fellow researcher, please use it. Thanks, Kelly A few people have emailed me asking how to sign up for the new lists and what to do. - ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. All lists are XX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L-request@rootsweb.com (regular mode) XX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-D-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode) The XX is to be removed and the two letter abbreviation for the state you are looking in added in its place. Examples: MI-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L-request@rootsweb.com CA-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L-request@rootsweb.com IL-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L-request@rootsweb.com 2. So, send an email to the one of your choice (make sure to have the state). Do not put anything in the subject line. In the body of the email write only: subscribe Then send it on :) 3. POSTING to the new census lists: A. Send it to XX-CENSUS-LOOKUP-L@rootsweb.com (supply the two letter state code for the XX again) B: Subject line MUST have the following: County/Year/Surname Example: Saginaw/1850/Smith C: In the body of the email: List whom you are looking for. Supply as much information as you can. Birthplace, ages, occupation, etc. D: Mail it on! That's it folks :) I hope that helped. I have put the list of states and two letter codes below for you. hi, if you'd please post a query on the Rootsweb Livingston County Site i'll immediately post a response to it, detailing everything i have on the PEARSON name... that way anyone who wants to offer any future info can add to the posting... hopefully this will reduce our correspondence and make it easier for future researchers to connect to both of our lines. my info is 1840-1920 for the county. thanx dennis On Fri, 27 Oct 2000 19:14:55 -0700 susan c miller <s.miller2@juno.com> writes: > Hi, > > I am related to the Arthur N. Is anyone working on the Walton families of Livingston Co.? My grandmother Maude, born 1891, was an adoptee and the natural daughter of Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Walton, born c. 1867. Lizzie had an older daughter Maggie. All three checked into the Livingston Co. Poor Farm from Reading Twp. at the end of 1891. Maude was given up for adoption in March 1892 to John and Sarah (Umphenour) Welch. John supplied produce, etc. to the Poor Farm. After Maude was adopted, Lizzie and Maggie checked out of the Poor Farm and vanished. A Mary Elizabeth Walton, age 24, of Bloomington, McLean Co., daughter of John George Walton and Jane Smailes, married Arthur Campbell, son of Hugh and Sarah Campbell, on 23 Nov 1892 at St. Matthews Church, Bloomington (Marriage Book J, page 310, #9826). Is this the same woman? Linda K.

Susan. I have a Miller family which resided in Livingston, Ill. My g-grandfather was Charles John Miller married to an Mary Emeline Kline. I know this is not your direct family but thought maybe he is a brother to your Miller. I have been told his fathers name was William and his mother was Mary. On the census records Charles lists his birthplace as Pa., but he married in Ill and he had 8 children born in Ill before moving on to Neb. Does any of this sound familiar to you. I would gladly share my copy. I have just 2 problems which are not insurmountable. I have lost the disk that had it on it (but I can rescan) and my computer is refusing to let me send out picture attachments (I can use my son's computer when I get this rescanned). I will do that as soon as I can and post it to the list if I can get permission to send an attachment to the list. Otherwise I will send it to whomever wants it. Meanwhile, if I can look a cemetery or township up for you I'll be glad to. I also have a County road map which I will gladly scan and share along with directions on how to read it. I only have Livingston County but I would assume any funeral home in other counties have the same thing. How else would they know how to get to a place for burial? Some of these cemeteries only have 10 or 12 tombstones in tham and are hidden from the road. Two that I know of are in people's back yards. Peg - > >Is there a chance anyone can get a copy.
