    3. Hi Dennis, I checked the list administrator's options and there aren't any that would address this situation. I have to assume that RootsWeb has made some changes - sorry! 1. [ILLIVING] A Map to find the 1875 Livingston Map
    2. Carter Dennis V
    3. hi, When you are at the US GenWeb Livingston County site the top of the page should read: Livingston County, IL Queries for 2001 Go down a bit on the screen until you see "Resource Pages" on your extreme left and click. The URL for the page you are now on is: http://www.crtelco.com/~annette1/resourcepage.html Go down about six screens... passing up lots of neat things... and in the middle of your screen in about two inch high capital letters you'll see: Livngston County 1875 Map Click there... and wait about 20 seconds for the loading action to be complete and you'll see an amazing sight. You'll probably want to save the entire page that allows you to get to the map as a favorite, that's why i listed its URL above. happy hunting dennis "Once, on this earth, on this familiar spot of ground, walked other men and women, as actual as we are today, thinking their own thoughts, swayed by their own passions, but now all are gone, one generation vanishing after another, gone as utterly as we ourselves shall shortly be gone like ghosts at cockcrow." -- G M Trevelyan in reply to: --- ILLIVING-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > ATTACHMENT part 2 message/rfc822 > Date: Wed, 09 May 2001 00:42:48 -0400 > From: John E Fischer <fischerj@one.net> > To: ILLIVING-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [ILLIVING] Old Livingston County Maps? > > Where? 1. [ILLIVING] Digest format is missing the To: Address
    2. Carter Dennis V
    3. hi, i really enjoy reading the digest format but have noticed that beginning today the address is missing in the "To:" section in the body of the postings. It may not seem like much when there's only a couple of postings... but when there are quite a few it becomes rather difficult to find out who has written which letter, so the index at the top becomes almost useless. This happened a couple of days ago on another group i'm a member of... sure hope it isn't a sign of things to come. BTW the weird part of it is the only way i can see who wrote each letter, without going to the top index each time, is to reply to a posting... then and only then are all of the names and addresses restored to the to: area. You know you're spending too much time on the Internet when this becomes the most important thing to write about... :) thanx dennis __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. hi, According to the 1875 Livingston County Map of Livingston available on line at USGenWeb Livingston County site 1/2 of the then city of Cayuga was in the southeast corner of Esmen Township. The town of Babcock was to the west of Cayuga, well within the boundaries of Esmen Township. I realize these are practically ghost towns today... but we are not studying today's ghost towns... we are interested in the people who inhabited the towns of yesteryear... thanx dennis --- William Rich <wmrich@fcg.net> wrote: > Susan, > > If you mean Esmen Township, it's the next township > north of Pontiac > Township, or about three miles from the city of > Pontiac. 3. Thanks Dottie - I will keep this on record as it may all fit in some day. Until I find out more on who the boys married, and their children, I can't say one way or the other, who belongs to whom. We are still sorting through the Illinois Marriage Index trying to decide which marriage might be the right time for each of the children, and then ordering the marriage applications and certificates for each. I wrote to the Clerk of Livingston County, and asked again if there were any Return of Marriage cert's to go with the three marriage cert's that I received and she said that they re-checked and still nothing attached to the Marriage cert. She was very nice about it. We ordered two more and there WERE return of marriage cert's attached to them so it did prove that our family was in Emington, Illinois, in the mid to late 1800's. Six out of their 14 children that we know of, now have been accounted for. We have a ways to go yet. Thanks again. I appreciate the help. - Karen ----- Original Message ----- From: Dorothy Nanninga Sewell <dsewell@alaska.net> To: <ILLIVING-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2001 12:34 PM Subject: Re: [ILLIVING] CLOSE family from Emington, Illinois. > This is probably not a factor in your search Karen but > since Pontiac was mentioned in one of your replies I > wanted to mention that there was a large Close family in > Pontiac and I seem to remember some in Odell. 3. This is probably not a factor in your search Karen but since Pontiac was mentioned in one of your replies I wanted to mention that there was a large Close family in Pontiac and I seem to remember some in Odell. There was a son named Ramone who died of cancer in his early 20s who had a wife named Beverly and a baby daughter. I worked with both of them. This was about 1957. Dottie

    3. Thanks June - That is how I found out some of them went to California, through the CA birth and death indexes. What would we do without these indexes on-line? Now if they would put the CA marriage index on there....... I also found a lot of them in the Illinois Marriage Index on-line, and it helped us prove they went to Illinois. 1. Virus cleaned - recieved through rootsweb
    2. unicorn
    3. PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS. I recieved a virus when I opened an email that was in response to one of my rootsweb queries. I did NOT have to open the attachment! This virus is called: W32.Badtrans.13312@mm and attacks your exe files. NOTE: McAfee DID NOT find this virus. Damage was done before I installed my Norton. Norton found it and repaired. Since it came through Rootsweb and I had only to open the response to my query, I can't tell you how to avoid it. However, I use Outlook Express email and my email program sent and resent my own mail to me over and over. Other people have recieved mail from me that the virus sent out automatically from my address book. WORSE YET, it went to people NOT in my address book and that I have never had any contact with. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this has cause anyone - it appears to be random and unavoidable. Someone has found a way to infiltrate our wonderful Rootsweb system but I think it's time Rootsweb did something about it. If some of our server's programs can catch this virus, as I'm hearing back, I would think Rootsweb could too. Shirl
