I don't think this is the Morris Foley I am looking for. He was born in NY in 1861 to Richard Foley and Johanna Norris Foley. His siblings were Mary, Annie Bridget, Margaret, Ellen, and Richard. Mary married Thomas McDonough, Annie Bridget married Charles Hazard, Margaret married Samuel Sprague, I don't know anything about Ellen, Richard married Irene Faulkner. The only information I have on them is about Annie Bridget (my great grandmother) and Richard. Richard died in 1930 and Morris was still alive then. Richard and Irene are buried in Elwood, Illinois, his father Richard is buried in Wilmington, died in 1898, and Annie Bridget and Charles Hazard are buried in Decatur, Michigan. I do not know what happened to the others. Thank you for your time and reply. Looking for any information of MORRIS FOLEY who married MARIA CUDDY in Livingston County, Illinois January 1, 1884. I believe he is my great grandmothers brother. I do not know when he died or where. If this is the same Morris Foley, he was born in NY in 1861, the second child of Irish immigrants - RICHARD FOLEY & JOHANNA NORRIS FOLEY. I know he was alive in 1930, as his name was mentioned in his brother's obit as a survivor. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Hi, My grandmother Anna Martha Gadeken Vetter took a course at the Hinsdale Sanitarium and graduated in 1909. Can anyone tell me where I could find out about the history and courses they had at that time? Thank you for any help you might be able to give me on this. Diane Dillon Poway, CA
Dianne, the Hinsdale Sanitarium and Hospital is near Chicago. My sister-in-law worked there until about 5 years ago, it is a regular hospital now ran by the 7th Day Adventist religion. I will e-mail her for an address. To the List: The Pontiac and Fairbury, IL libraries have a copy of the following Livingston Co., IL History books. 1. 1878 (reprint) The History of Livingston Co. IL (indexed) 2. 1888 Portrait & Biographical Album of Livingston Co., IL (index for surname of each biography only) 3. 1909 Historical Encyclopedia of IL & History of Livingston Co., Volume II has biographical sketches ( not indexed, but biographies in alphabetical order) 4. 1991 A History of Livingston Co., IL (indexed, name of contributer listed with the family's biography) Susan Ulfers Campbell in GA
The book entitled "A History of Livingston County, Illinois" compiled by the Livingston County History Project, was published in 1991 by Curtis Media Corporation of Dallas, TX. They did many county histories in the last 20 years, and seemed to set up the same system for each - finding a local person to be the contact and to whom write-ups could be sent by contributors. Some short, basic article size was free, and anything beyond that, plus any photos, cost an additional amount. I believe Newberry Library in Chicago has copies of at least one, and I think two or three, earlier Livingston County Histories. No doubt the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana would have them too. I believe both libraries will make copies of pages in history books, but I don't know if they will do the searching through them, especially since these early books had no index. The 1991 Curtis Media book is indexed. Linda (Lightholder) Kmiecik
Diane, I would say the chances of finding obits from that time period are pretty good. I've been successful at finding obits from the early 1900s at the Pontiac library. They have most of the early newspapers on microfilm there. Larry in Minneapolis
I have just had details of two deaths in Pleasant Ridge, Livingston Co. one in 1903, one in 1909, what are the chances of there being obits for these two people? Thanks in anticipation.....Diane Rayburn

While in Salt Lake last year, I accessed the book, A History of Livingston County, Illinois compiled by Livingston County History Project. If this is the book you are referring to, its call number was 977.361D2h. RootsWeb one week later (I've been slowly working through some old e-mail). Looks like she generated a bit of interest with this. ;) o Wow, What a response! I submitted information regarding a book my husband saved from an auction trash bin, SOME WHO LED or FATHERS IN THE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN WHO HAVE PASSED OVER. I have received over 200 messages for copies in just three days. I'll never be able to handle the volume. Regretfully, I will be unable to answer any further e-mails after June 12th. The load is too much for one person. I have been notified that there is a copy at the McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas at the campus library, Miller Library (which has a Brethren Room). The book's call number is B 286.50922 M647s. Title: Some Who Led: or Fathers in the Church of the Brethren who have passed over, Author: Miller, Daniel Long, 1841, Publisher: Elgin, Ill Brethren Pub. House. I do not desire to sell the book at this time. Thank you and I'm sorry I cannot answer the large volume of requests. Janis L. Warne rjwarne@ix.netcom.com
Saw this in the "Somebody's Links" section of RootsWeb Review. Thought it might be of interest to those here: o My husband was given a book that was going to be thrown away after not being sold at an auction. The title is SOME WHO LED or FATHERS IN THE CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN WHO HAVE PASSED OVER, written in 1912 by D. L. Miler and Galen B. Royer. It contains short biographies of these ministers from the late 1660s to 1911: ANTHONY, William A.; ARNOLD, Charles Edward; BALSBAUGH, Christian Hervey; BOMBERGER, Christian; BOWMAN, John A.; BOWMAN, Joseph B.; BOWMAN, George C.; BOWMAN, Madison; CASSEL, Abraham Harley; EBERSOLE, John P.; EBY, Enoch; FIKE, Samuel A.; FORNEY, John; GARST, Henry; GIBSON, Isham; GISH, James Rugus; HAMILTON, Hiel; HERTZLER, William; HOLSINGER, George Blackburn; HOOVER, Samuel W.; HOPE, Christian; KEYSER, Peter; KLINE, John; KURTZ, Henry; LAHMAN, Jospeh Christian; LONG, David; LONG, Isaac; MACK, Alexander Jr.; MACK, Alexander Sr.; MAJOR, Mrs. Sarh Righter; METZGER, John; MILLER, David Alfred; MILLER, Robert Henry; MOHLER, Samuel S.; MOOMAW, Benjamin Franklin; MURRAY, Samuel; NAAS, Johannes; NEAD, Peter; OLLER, Jacob F; PARKER, Isaac Dillon; PRICE, Isaac; PUTERBAUGH, Amsey Hascall; QUINTER, James; SAUR (SOWER), Christopher; SAYLER, Daniel P.; SNYDER, Jacob S.; STAUFFER, Daniel F.; STONER, Ephraim; STURGIS, Daniel B.; THOMAS, Daniel; THOMAS, Jacob; TROSTLE, Jacob D.; UMSTAD, John; VANIMAN, Albert; VANIMAN, Daniel; WINE, Jacob; WINE, Joseph; WISE, John; WOLFE, George; ZIGLER, Samuel; ZOLLERS, George D.; and ZUCK, Jacob Martin. If you are interested in any of those listed above, I would be happy to check the book and pass on any information. He also was given a framed certificate printed in German. It appears to be a Confirmation certificate issued to Johanna WAGNER. There are two handwritten dates -- the first "geberen den 25 January 1862" and the second "confirmut den 19 November 1883." It was issued in Livingston, Illinois. We would like to reunite this with a family member. Janis L. Warne rjwarne@ix.netcom.com
I am attempting to locate Mary Jayne Clasper or her family (in Pontiac IL in 1948. She would now be about 68 and probably has married and has another last name. Do you have any records on the Claspers?
