This is directed to GLENDA ARGO: There are several Wulzen, Emmons (Ammons), Defenbaugh on my site below under Cemeteries, Moon's Point. By the way, group, Moon's Point was named after Albert Moon, owner of the property, one of the original founders of the community of Reading, then called "Hardscrabble", and resident of the cemetery. My ancester, Josiah Woolford, was also a original resident and may have come east with the Moon's. There is a history of the Moon's and others on my site from "The History of Livingston County" under Cemeteries...Moon's Point".

hi, Received this on another list i subscribe to and thought everyone could benefit from seeing it... apologies to those who've seen it before... thanx dennis MESSAGE FROM THE ROOTSWEB HOME OFFICE by Jake Gehring, RootsWeb Executive Producer Our message boards improvements continue this week. My comments regard the search features in the new system. Sometimes certain boards and the messages they contain have been moved since they were initially indexed -- when you search and try to view posts, you get an error message asking you to check back in a few hours. In some cases this message lasts a lot longer than expected. We're changing the error message and working hard to fix the underlying problem. I'll report the status of this issue next week. Generally, however, we hope that you are impressed with the new search features. The new system shows search results ranked by relevance -- meaning that the system will display the best hits first. For example, messages that contain all of your terms are ranked higher than those that contain only some. Here are a couple of additional search tips: Wildcard Searching. The new message boards allow wildcard searching as long as the user specifies at least the first three characters in the word (i.e., users can search for "gehr*" to find "gehring, gehrig, gehrke," etc.). Search Operators. New functionality allows users to add powerful operators to their search terms to affect results. These operators, the plus and minus signs, are placed just before your search terms and function like popular Internet search engines Yahoo! and AltaVista. If you put a plus (+) sign in front of any word, that word *must* appear in a message for it to be a match. If there are terms that you want to exclude (you don't want to see messages in which these terms appear), you can place a minus sign (-) in front of them. For example, a search for "+gehring heinrich -baden" will return only those hits that contain the word "gehring" but not the word "baden", and in this group any messages containing "heinrich" will be displayed before those that don't. Try out these new search features next time you visit the boards. Happy hunting! * * * * *

hi, My progress has been slowed down by my inability to operate the keyboard while munching on popcorn... wish i could do both at the same time, but the popcorn has the definite higher priority! <A HREF="http://hometown.aol.com/illinoygenealogy/myhomepage/business.html"> Livingston Co, Illinois Genealogical Research</A> is the url for anyone who'd like to check out the web page. The "Placenames of Livingston County" now includes Schoolhouses, Towns, Townships, and Waterways and will soon include libraries, with addresses, and newspapers. Schoolhouses were just added so there aren't many yet but the location is described as well as the years of use. Amazing how many towns there were and how useful it has been in finding the soldiers of the Civil War in the on line sites. A detailed US history timeline is in the works, complete with a source for every entry... with every major Civil War battle included... would like to now begin adding events of Illinois and Livingston County. This is something anyone could copy for their personal use and insert their own family's vital records (b,m,d) into it so as to personalize it... and hopefully get a younger generation interested in bringing history to life? Does anyone have a chronology of events they could e-mail me or advise me of the url if its on line? Plan on beginning the long process of inserting the sources of information today, and here's what the surname index will soon begin to look like: Work is now underway to eventually make this a master surname index of all public records of Livingston County. Beginning mid July you'll be able to look at some surnames and immediately know what years the family lived in the county and the source of that information, beginning with the oldest families. Each decade of history will be represented by a progressive number, so 1837=3, 1845=4, 1851=5, etc. Numbering system:___type of record: 1800-1809 = 0_______a=Associations & Societies 1810-1819 = 1_______b=Baptismal Records 1820-1829 = 2_______c=Biographies 1830-1839 = 3_______d=Birth Index 1840-1849 = 4_______e=Burial Index & Cemeteries 1850-1859 = 5_______f=Census Records 1860-1869 = 6_______g=Churches/Membership Rolls 1870-1879 = 7_______h=Courthouses & Clerks 1880-1889 = 8_______i=Deaths/Mortality Schedules/Obits 1890-1899 = 9_______j=Historical Accounts 1900-1909 = 10______k=Immigration & Naturalization 1910-1919 = 11______l=Land and Deed Records 1920-1929 = 12______m=Marriage Index 1930-1939 = 13______n=Membership Rolls 1940-1949 = 14______o=Military Records 1950-1959 = 15______p=Newspapers 1960-1969 = 16______q=Queries 1970-1979 = 17______r=Records not listed above 1980-1989 = 18______s=Schools/Yearbooks 1990-1999 = 19______t=Tax Records 2000-2010 = 20______z=Miscellaneous A letter following this number would be the type of information, a second number would be the source. Example: if you see: Abbaduska, 4f6 You'd know the surname was recorded on a document that originated in the 1840-1849 range and would look for source "f" to find your source is a census, and going to footnote #6 would find its the 1840 US Census Livingston County, IL, extraction and where to obtain a copy. Below is a list of how the name was spelled or transcribed on various documents. As of 15Jul2001 if you don't see the name you are looking for it only means i haven't gotten around to recording every single name yet... i'll be happy to add any name as long as you tell me what is your source of information (where you got the information). To see who is currently being added just scroll down to the last footnote on sources (for quicker lookups use your Ctrl+F and "End" keys): Surname, Decade/Record Type/Source of Information Aapkins, Aaron, Aarvig, Aarving My desire is to build something that will encourage new researchers and others to look into Livingston County and make connections with everyone who's been there and done that. Eventually this will lead to a full name index for the county. It won't be done overnight and will take some time as accuracy is most important... and i hope to concentrate on the older records first. Maybe genealogical activity in the county will then be compared to popcorn popping? Reminds me that's its time for more popcorn so... happy hunting, dennis in reply to: > Hi Dennis, > > I visited you Livingston County Research site and was > very impressed with the plans for the page. Dear List members, We have now completed the Illinois counties family history links on our website, except for further updates as we receive more church records, which is an ongoing task. We are now preparing to enter some information for counties in Iowa, and Missouri, and have already entered a few counties for Wisconsin. We have the research well underway for Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, but in Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana, we have a great deal more original research work to do, and will appreciate help from anyone who knows of the existence of Primitive Baptist church records or membership lists for those states. We have made enough revision and addition to our site, to warrant giving you the URL addresses again, in case you wish to check our site again, or see it for the first time. We encourage you to write on the guest books which are at the bottom of two or three of our webpages. Our main homepage (with links to research completed and in progress for several states): http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html Or, for Illinois counties, go directly to: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/FamHist.html Best wishes, Robert Webb The Primitive Baptist Library Carthage, Illinois HAPPY 4th of JULY I will now go ring the bell on our church ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Hello Cousin Gretchen and List Members, Just a further note to your letter on Renke Albers, he was the janitor at the Windtown (St Petri) church for many years. He and his wife are buried next to the church. His wife had two children when they married about 1869. Detje Schlueter (my grandmother)b. 1860 in Wybelsum, GY who married Albert Manhusen and Henry Schlueter b.1864 in Wybelsum, Gy. Many of the Schlueter descendants still live in the Flanagan area. I show that Jennie married Fred Zehr and Jacob married Edna Zehr. I have a lot of information on the Schlueter, Manhusen/Menhusen and Janssen ancestors but almost nothing on the Albers name. Renke was born 4 Jan 1820 in Ostfriesland and died in March of 1910 in Flanagan, IL. There may have been an obituary for him but I have not been able to get the local newspaper to look for it or to allow me to see if I could find it. Maybe one of you will have more luck. Perhaps it was in the Pontiac Leader if it existed in 1910. Dorothy Nanninga Sewell dsewell@alaska.net Eagle River, Alaska Ostfriesland Ancestors http://www.alaska.net/~dsewell
