Yes, We believed both were born in Ohio, but on Williams Civil war papers it says he was born in New York. There were no parents names in civil war packet or on their marriage license (just that they were over 18) Thank you Marti
I then lucked out on my Civil War Records - I even received a photograph of Jacob Carmean! Try the Ohio records on line - you won't believe the amount of information available there. I would suggest you do a search using google http://www.google.com for your Ohio Search. What outfit did he serve with in the Civil War? It should say where he mustered out of as well. ...from the Memoirs of Heenanville. This was written by Bertha Wultzen. "My father, William Henry Wultzen, was born south of Streator in Reading, October 31, 1858. My mother, Carrie Lorena Sopher, was born in Brownsville, Penn., March 31, 1863. My parents were married in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Streator, November 16, 1880 by the Reverend J. S. Millsop. They moved to Heenanville where my father worked as a miner. He was also a laborer on the farm and a carpenter by trade. When the mine was closed, he helped move some of the houses to Cherry where the men would secure employment in the Cherry mine. Four sons and four daughters were born to our family --Henry, Rena, Fred, Margaret (who married Herman Mackey), James, Ella (Mrs. Ella Locke, who lives in Earlville), Charles and Bertha (I live in Streator). Some of us attended the Heenanville School. I was in school until the age of 12 when our family moved to Streator. The tragic event in our family was the death of my brother James during the first World War. He left home for Camp Grant to train for overseas service for our country. As a member of Company C, 64th Infantry, in the latter part of August, 1918, he arrived in France. Shortly upon his arrival, he was ill with pneumonia. This was during the terrible flu epidemic. James died September 15, 1918. His body was laid to rest in the Arlington National Cemetery."

Glenda You might try Random Acks of Genealogical Kindness, of which I am a member (for the Savannah, Georgia area) at: http://raogk.rootsweb.com/ There are lookups for LaSalle and Livingston counties. If you know the date of death, Streator library has some obituary records and will look them up for a fee if you are unable to go there. Obituaries are a great way to get info, although they may contain mistakes. The libraries address and other helpful info may be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~illasall/ Good luck, Glenda. Bud
Mr. Woolford, Thank you so much. Your information on Moon's Point Cemetery helped me make a great deal of progress on my Wulzen/Wultzen families. I did not know until a short few weeks ago that the Defenbaugh and Emmons were also connected. I have just found that Isabella Wultzen/Wulzen married first ????? Emmons probably in Ohio and then married John Fowler in Livingston Co., in 1885. So slowly but surely it is coming together. I wish Livingston Co. had more of there cemeteries online. Can you advise me where the best place to contact for a lookup or search in other cemeteries in Livingston Co. would be? Good question Glenda. I would like to know if there is a central location for the cemetery records too. I know that there are many cemeteries that have been recorded by Verda Gerwik at the Lexington Genealogical Society but I don't think they are on line. Could one of our list members who are in the area please check to see what she has and how much trouble it would be to post it? (Please tell her hello from her Alaskan connection.) There are hundreds of little cemeteries around the county, some with only a few graves. Does anyone know anything about any WALTON families, probably of Reading Township, around 1890-1892? Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" WALTON entered the Livingston Co. Poor Farm in late 1891 with 2 daughters Maggie and Maude, from Reading Township. The baby Maude was given up for adoption from there in March of 1892 to John and Sarah (Umphenour) Welch of Ocoya, and Lizzie and Maggie left the Poor Farm and disappeared. I've checked some WALTON families including that of the men who owned the Walton Store in Fairbury. The destroyed 1890 federal census could have helped so much. There was a Mary Elizabeth WALTON of about the right age who married an Arthur CAMPBELL in Bloomington, McLean Co. in November of 1892. I can't find them on any 1900 census. The baby Maude was my paternal grandmother. Linda K.
