Greetings Jane, As a subscriber to this list for other family lines I get most all the stuff. Having gotten your message on "PUFFER" I addressed my large Aldrich data base as the name had an earl "ring". I am not following the Puffer line. Took the stub as was available and moved on. Noah's wife died and was buried in Round Grove Cemetery, he remarried, Mrs. Sarah Rogers on 13 June 1888 in Cabrey, Illinois. She was from Broughton, Ill. Noah's son Joseph married a Susan Bryant of Gardner, Grundy Illinois. They had two children while living in Gardner. A daughter Ella born 1887 and a daughter Georgia Myrtel born 1890. The oldest daughter Ella at age two, was returning home from a visit to her Grandparents in Campus after a bad rain storm with her mothers sister Susan. The road was flooded and Susan could not see the road and the buggy wheel went into the ditch and threw both into the water. Ella was drown. This happened near Wilson. Joseph and Susan moved to Campus and had a son Wilbur in 1892. Joseph and Susan and their family moved to California about 1819. Noah's Charles married Susan's sister Sarah Bryant 23 May 1892. Sarah died in 1899. There is record of her being buried in Round Grove Cemetery. Any obits or marriage notices or other information about this family would be appreciated. Hi--I'll step in here if you don't mind! :-) My family has Puffer in-laws: Alice Leona PEARSON, my grandmother's oldest sister, married Samuel R. PUFFER [1858-1929] 15 March 1881 at Chatsworth, IL. Her obit follows. It mentions Puffers who came from out of town [Chatsworth] at the end so you might know some of them? I have Samuel and Alice's marriage record which lists his parents as Sally Baker Belden and [note the penmanship is poor so I may be wrong here] Samuel S. Puffer. Their witnesses were Henry W. Yates and Loretta Yates. Samuel R. was b. Putnam Co., IL and would have been 23 on his next b., according to the marriage record. I have the birth and death dates on him from the grave stone. He and Alice are both bur. in Chatsworth cem. Son, Louis Puffer was b. 1883 and d. 1965 per the grave stone but I don't know much else about him [no exact dates]...he married Lillie M. Unknown [1885-1934 per grave stone], on unknown date and they had a dtr. Mary Jane Puffer b. unknown and no other info. on her other than I know she lived in Livingston Co. area and went to school in/near chatsworth. Dtr. Carrie Puffer Hedges b. 9 Dec.1881. Per grave stone: [1881-1964]. Married V. W. Hedges. No other information. Carrie is buried with her family there in Chatsworth. Her husband's stone is not with the rest of the family's, nor is he listed on her stone. Interesting. Chatsworth Plaindealer November 3, 1911 Mrs. Samuel R. Puffer Dies On Sunday morning at about seven o'clock, at the family home in the southwest part of this city, occurred the death of Mrs. Samuel R. Puffer following an illness of over four months. Mrs. Puffer's health had been poor for several years, and during the past fourteen years she has been ill 66 weeks. Her malady was cancer, and her death is the first in the family of twenty-one children of Bennett Pearson. Alice Lavina [Leona is correct, not Lavina] Pearson was born at Brimfield, Peoria County, Illinois, November 16, 1861, and was the eldest daughter of Mrs. Hannah Pearson of this city. She came to Chatsworth with her parents when a small girl, and on March 16, 1881, was united in marriage with Samuel R. Puffer. Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Louis L. Puffer, of Chatsworth, one daughter, Mrs. W. V. Hedges, of Frankfort, Illinois, one grandchild, Mary Alice Puffer, her aged mother, the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. C. W. Stephens, Logansport, Ind.; Mrs. William Felt, Mrs. Alva Dann, Mrs. John G. Piercy, all of Waukee, Iowa; Fred, of Fairmont, Neb.; Charles and William, of Waukee, Iowa; Fillmore, of Rich Hill, Mo.; Elmer, Edward, Jesse, Arthur and Ira, of Chatsworth; and the following half-brothers and half-sisters: Thomas Pearson, Mrs. Hattie White, Harry Pearson, all of Fairmont, Neb.; Sarah Swartz, of Sutton, Neb.; George Pearson, of Grand Island, Neb.; Mrs. Eliza Nixon of Arrowsmith, Ill.; John Pearson, of Waukee, Iowa. In early life Mrs. Puffer affiliated herself with the M. E. Church, but in 1889 she transferred her membership to the Chatsworth Baptist Church. She was a lady most highly esteemed by a large circle of friends, and her taking away is the cause of sorrow in the hearts of many to whom her ministrations in the time of need had made her dear. The funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock. Rev. V. A. Crumbaker of the M. E. Church officiating, and the large number of friends in attendance filled the home and the yard. The interment was at Chatsworth cemetery, and the number who followed the remains to their last resting place was very large, and attested of the high esteem in which deceased was held by the people of this community. The pall-bearers were six of the brothers of deceased. Those from a distance who attended ther funeral were: Dr. W. V. Hedges, of Frankfort, Mrs. C. W. Stephens, of Logansport, Ind.; Mrs. and Mrs. J. C. Puffer and daughter, of Chicago; Mrs. Hattie White and Fred Pearson, of Fairmont, Neb.; William Pearson, of Waukee, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Nixon, Arrowsmith; Tunnard Storey, of Edison, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Storey, of Bloomington; Mrs. Lina Puffer, of Odell; Mrs. Emma Phillips, of Lostant; Mrs. Hess, of Bonfield; Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Pierce, of Bloomington; Mrs. Lizzie Elson, of Chenoa; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sideholz, of Kankakee; Mrs. Lambourn and daughter, of Wenona. Does any of this connect with your Puffer family???? First I should say that I am related to all Puffer families in America. We are a small brood and descended through George and Elizabeth (Sedley) Puffer of Braintree Mass. I believe the family you speak of probably descended through George and Elizabeth's oldest son, James and his youngest son, Jabez, where I descended through James oldest son, Richard. Thanks for the info. Warm Regards, June
Hello, June! :) I don't have any direct connection to your families but wanted to mention to you that there is a strong link to my hometown, Corwith, Hancock Co., Iowa from Livingston County that you may want to explore sometime. I am doing the genealogy of Corwith, where in 1925 over 50% of the town had a connection to Livingston County. There is a Puffer family living there now whose ancestor was Wilfred E. Puffer (1876-1954) who married Lulu Minnie Beck. Both were born in/around Odell. Let me know if I can be of help? :) LuAnn Folkers Des Moines, Iowa

Verda is a really helpful lady and has been at the center for a long time. They have censuses there, some newspaper microfilms and lots and lots of books relating to the area among other things. Lexington is actually in McLean County, I believe, but is still a repository for many Livingston County records. I'm sure any extra donation to the center when asking for assistance would be greatly appreciated. Be sure to visit there if you are ever going to Livingston County to do any research! It isn't far! I am new to this list and need help trying to find out what is available on line in this county? Are there volunteers to do look ups, etc.? are there sites I can go to for obits, marriages, etc.? Charles Bishop was bn in Union Twp. on 1-19-1868. He was the s/o Solomon and Rachel (Shotwell) Bishop. Solomon was the s/o of Joseph and Charlotte (Puffer) Bishop. Charlotte was bn in 1813/14 in Glenville Tp, Schenectady Co. NY. She was the d/o of Ira Puffer and her mother was probably his first wife, Mary Van Wormer. She grew up in Owego, Tioga Co NY. After her father's death in 1842, the family moved to Wayne Co, NY. Here she met and married Joseph. before 1870 they left NY and I have been trying to trace their movements every since to find hoping to find the other lines of her children. Charlotte died in 1909 in Millington, MI where her son, Solomon finally settled. She had 6 children but I only know of 3 of them, Solomon, Ezra and Joseph. Through tracking Solomon I found out that some of his kids were bn in IL. Through the obit of his son Charles, I found out it was in Union Tp. Livingston Co IL. Hence my reason for signing to this list. Solomon was bn in 1843, and Ezra was bn in 1848, while Joseph Jr was bn in the 1850's. I am trying to find out also, where the father died. Thanks for all your help. Warm Regards, June
Hi Marilyn, Someone has probably already written this, but best is to get in touch with Verda Gerwick at The Fort in Lexington Il. Tele: 309-365-4591. She has about as complete a set of records for Livingston County as you can get. Good Luck in your search. Virginia (of Saunemin). Marilyn, Have you contacted the Pontiac Public Library? They have newspapers (mostly INDEXED!!) for all of Livingston County. If Verda at the Fort, as Virginia mentioned, doesn't have the info, that's another place to check.. Teri
Does anyone have access to an obit for : John McCLOUD d. July 25, 1885 in Saunemin, IL or Charles McCLOUD d. Nov. 19, 1887, Odell, IL (brothers) Trying to find any evidence of who their parents were. Thanks very much. Marilyn
