Hi Celia, You mention this listing of cemeteries. Is there a web site that also lists the names of the persons in the cemeteries? I looking for the cemetery where Paul Dale/Deal was buried. He died about 1894 near Cornell Thank you. You can find a list of cemeteries in Livingston County at the Illinois State Genealogical Society web site: http://www.tbox.com/isgs/ilcemetery-al/Livingston.html It seems to be down right now, but you can get maps with specific items (like cemeteries) indicated by going to the U.S. Geological Survey web site which is searchable: http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html Good luck! The Livingston County USGenWeb page does not contain a map.....specifically, township locations. Does anyone know of an online county map that would show all townships and, for that matter, cemetery locations? I don't believe anyone has any cemetery lists for each cemetery in the county - at least I've never seen any - anyone know if a project to catalogue each and every cemetery within the county has ever been done? I'm willing to drive there to look, but I without a map, the trip would be pointless. John Reedy
I am hoping some one can help me find a tombstone for Abel Johnson Bradley he married a Susan Defenbaugh and they are both buried in the Defenbaugh Cemetery in Reading, Livingston Co. IL. I believe he was born around the 1830's. Yes, Campus still has a Catholic Church that still open but it is over saw by Father Ricky from Dwight. 815-584-3522. As far as I know no other churches are still open there, Hope this helps. Kim Klein
Campus did have a Catholic church and a M.E. church in 1893. Both were still in operation in 1911, but I don't know whether they still exist or not.
William Rich Thanks for that bit of information about the churches in Pontiac. Now can you tell me if Campus was large enough to have a church in the late 1800. Helen Bryant
Hi, Every time you reply to a message, it puts the old message right along with it. You can delete all of that....instead of clogging things up with repeats of the same thing you are all complaining about. Now for some genealogy: Does anyone have any Franzens in the area of Windtown/Wintown? (Ostfriesians). How about Gerbers? Loeschen? Lani in Iowa
The 1991 Livingston County History records that the Presbyterian Church has been in Pontiac since at least 1857, and services conducted since 1852.
For Rose Adams and perhaps others: I have a Margaret McGuire who married William Lightholder, date and place unknown. They lived from perhaps 1847 through the later 1850s in the town of Milton, Saratoga Co., NY. Their children were born in Saratoga Co. in 1848, 1851, 1853, and 1856 and baptized at the Church of St. Peter, Saratoga Springs, and the youngest son was born in Peoria Co., IL c. 1863. The family is on the 1860 Richwoods Twp., Peoria Co. federal census, and on the 1865 Radnor Twp., Peoria Co. state census. In 1870 they were in Chenoa, McLean Co. federal census, and in 1880 on the Esmen Twp., Livingston Co., IL federal census. In the 1880s the family is believed to have lived in Saunemin, Livingston Co. William died in 1888 and Margaret in 1894, and both were buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, Pontiac. Both William and Margaret were born in Ireland, according to various censuses. Further, William's 1851 citizenship intention paper, filed in Saratoga Co., NY, says he was born in County "Made", which I believe is County Meath pronounced with a brogue. There were other McGuire people living in Saratoga Co., NY at this time, in the towns of Halfmoon, Saratoga Springs, and Waterford, with others in adjacent Albany Co. (town of Albany mainly). John Richards, a man of some means, and the witness for William Lightholder's Oath of Allegiance in 1853, also lived in the town of Milton. Among the laborers living in Richards' household in 1850 and 1855 was Patrick McGuire, born Ireland, age 30 in 1850 and 35 in 1855. It is possible Patrick was a brother to Margaret (McGuire) Lightholder who was 29 in 1855. Other Irish immigrants appear in Richards' household during various censuses. It seems probable that Richards (a Protestant) acted as a sponsor to various Irish immigrants, perhaps even paying for their passage, in return for their labor for several years. Lastly, a Mary McGuire was a sponsor at the child John Lightholder's 1853 baptism. Other connected surnames in NY are Waters, Kenney, Deo, Daley, and Kelly. Two of the Lightholder children married Browns from Saunemin, children of Edward and Elizabeth (Murray) Brown who were also Irish immigrants and Catholic. If any of this connects, please get in touch. Linda (Lightholder) Kmiecik tonky@ctnet.net
Are there adults here using this? I agree that this is not the place for viewing or reading someone else opinion on political stuff but do we have to get into the name calling. It does get pretty bad when you have to hit that "delete" button more than twenty times about the same thing. Please be more considerate of other people. I for one do have a life and have better things to do than to weed through all of this. Can anyone on the list tell me if there was a Presbyterian Church in Pontiac in the 1870s? Is anyone on the list a member of that church? Kevin California

What is a political piece doing on a geneology list? I hope the sender is talked to by the list owner!
Mr. Fields, Your response was as inappropriate as the original posting. This list is for genealogy research and not for espousing political views. Kathleen Healy
I can't believe such garbage was allowed on this site. This is for genealogy not a political forum. I did not read past the first couple of sentences and decided I now will vote for Vice-President Gore. Thank you for making up my mind.

I would appreciate it if the list could be kept neutral as far as religion and politics go. I for one am very offended that someone would use this forum to speak out on their own personal political views. Thank You for keeping it GENEALOGY Mary _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Mr. Julius DRONE I use these mail lists for GENEALOGY purposes. In my humble opinion, filling up the mail lists of this and other lists with these messages is INAPPROPRIATE, a waste of time, and a potential way to carry viruses. I receive approx. 50 emails per day and DO NOT want to mess with this type of email. And besides that, I don't need this type of "information" to "assist" me in making a decision of whom I will vote for....I'm quite capable of making the decision on my own in much more intellectual and factual ways. I did not read this information below after getting to the first "FICTION" after realizing what it was, and just because you sent it makes me feel more likely to vote FOR Mr. Gore, just for spite!
