There were several coal mines in the Cherry and Ladd area. There was a great mine disaster in the early 1900's at Cherry. Many miners died, and the mine never reopened. The great slag heaps were still there as I was growing up, and may still be there looking like small mountains. Rose Caster (From Mendota in LaSalle County)
