Like Mary Murphy, I too am a novice at this. I am planning a trip to LaSalle Co. in a couple of weeks, however, and would also like to make the most of it. My intent is to attempt to locate birth, death, and naturalization records. In addition, I will attempt to locate obituary notices. I will also try to find gravesites. I know many of my ancestors are buried in St. Columba Cemetary, and have even located a deed to a cemetary lot there, where I believe the primary ancestor I am searching is buried. I had planned to search these records at the courthouse and library (obituary notices). Ir sounds as though the genealogy society would be a better bet. Is that correct? Are these offices located in Ottawa? Does anyone have any additional advice to make my trip more fruitful? I would appreciate any advice. Thank you Mary Beebe dc:
