    3. This was very interesting as I attended Koontz School all grades except 2nd and knew some of the Tombaugh families in reading township I was born in 1939. I lived with my grandparents just a 1/2 mi up the same road where Koontz school was located.. There was the Holmes farms in that same area located since 1864 some of which were down the road from the Munster Elavator by the railroad that ran thru there Janet M. bluejay201@mchsi.com wrote:Thanks, I forgot about Farm Ridge... Clyde attended Knootz school west of Streator, and graduated from Heenanville Grade school. I think he went to two years of SHS before family moved to Kansas. My Dad graduated with Esther. 3. Janet, That's pretty cool to hear from you and hear your memories. I was born in 1951 and as a kid was fascinated by astronomy and went to see Clyde give a presentation at the high school auditorium, He seemed like a really nice guy. I guess everyone has heard about how he made his own telescope, even ground the lenses himself. A few years back, I attended the combination Tombaugh reunion and dedication of part of Main Street as Clyde Tombaugh Drive. I talked with one of the Tombaughs of my own generation, and she said the surname was unique--that it was originally "Tone-bach" or maybe Tonbach with the umlaut over the O, but an Ellis Island official changed the spelling. Clyde's wife, Patsy, was a very pleasant person. Clyde seemed like a guy who really enjoyed life and teaching, and I believe that's how she described him.
