I think it's much the same today. Someone leaves, and they send word back about work, etc, or go and get others. They go wher e the one from home is, whether a relative or an acquaintance. My Swedes came in three sets, 10 years apart, and all to where the first emigrant was. They moved on in some cases, but they were ticketed to "Joliet, IL", from Goteborg, Sweden.
