I found a new web page today - Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War - and they have listed my ancestor Myron C. Kingsbury as being interred in the Barnhart Cemetery in LaSalle Co. He was a 1 LT and died in 1864 at Dutch Gap, Virginia. I have walked all over the Richmond, City Point and Petersburg cemeteries but never found him. I talked with a part ranger last year and Myron was not listed in any of the cemetery rosters there. I knew that many families arranged to have their loved ones remains sent back home for burial, and this must have been what the Kingsburys did for Myron. Are there any lists of burials/headstones for the Basore-Barnhart Cemetery? The Sons of Union Vets web page only states his name and the cemetery name. Nothing has been noted as far as there being a military headstone or anything. I would really appreciate it if someone has a list and can check it for me. Is there a stone? Is the cemetery kept up? The Kingsburys and Rockwoods moved from NY to IL in 1855 and lived in Bruce Township until after the war, and then moved to Chebanse in Iroquois Co. I think that they were devastated to lose their oldest son. Thanks for any help. Cynthia Kingsbury Aucoin cindya@msn.com<mailto:cindya@msn.com>
I have been to the Barnhart Cemetery in Streator Illinois. The majority of the stones were broken up, ruined, many lay in a pile around a tree. It is located behind a corn field on a farm. My Ammons family had a few members buried there but none of there stones remained. I will send a couple pix from the cemetery to your email address cindya@msn.com. I am mygenealogy2005@cox.net. I made my trip three years ago I believe. I have no memory of a Kingsbury being buried there. You can contact the La Salle Genealogy society and I think they have a list of some of the burials.
