    1. RE: [ILLASALLE] Davis Family in 1832 Indian Creek Massacre

    3. I can't help you many specifics on the Davis family, but I do have a couple of accounts of the massacre from my ancestors' reports - the Halls were neighbors of the Davis family and were at their house on Big Indian Creek when they were killed. A transcript of Rachel & Sylvia Hall's account is on my genealogy website at: http://www.gencircles.com/users/sdunavan/1/data/162 It is under the information on Rachel (my ancestor), you need to scroll way down to see it. There is also a transcript there from a story by John Hope Henderson, a survivor from another family involved. If you want to read yet another account there is one by John Wesley Hall, a brother of Rachel & Sylvia, at: http://www.gencircles.com/users/sdunavan/1/data/171 In John's account he says when they fled to Ottawa immediately after the attack, "we fell in with Mr. Howard and son, three sons of Mr. Davis, and my two brothers, all of whom were in the field referred to except one of Mr. Davis' sons, who was with us in the shop when the alarm was given." He describes William Davis during the attack, and Rachel mentions that Mr. Davis' family consisted of nine in all. His youngest son Jimmie was killed on the trail after the massacre. John Henderson states that all of the Davis family were killed, which doesn't agree with the Hall account, but as his story was told many years later by his nephew, I think it is more likely that John W. Hall's story is right.
