    1. [ILLASALLE] Re: Looking for cousin Elaine, lost during WW II in Seneca
    2. My uncle, Frederick Charles Runyard, was killed in action on the Liberty ship, USS Paul Hamilton, sunk near the coast of Algiers in the Mediterranean Ocean on April 20, 1944. The ship was sunk by an aerial torpedo, and 504 men lost their lives. It was the greatest loss of lives caused by an American ship sinking during the 44 months of WW II Fred had a daughter, Elaine, in Seneca, Illinois, who was born before he left for Europe in the army, and after his death, our family lost contact. Mother of Elaine was Lois, and she is said to have very curly hair, perhaps red. We do not know if Fred and Lois were married. Elaine would have been born 1935 to 1941, and would be approximately 64 years old now. It is my assumption that she continued to live in the Seneca area, and perhaps graduated from the high school there, probably in the early to mid 1950's. Fred was from Winnebago, Illinois, and he met her mother Lois when he was working in the State Park for the CCC--he was building a bridge there just before the war. I never knew the existance of Elaine until this year, and she was probably adopted by a later person who perhaps married her mother Lois. Maybe she is unaware of her father, Fred Runyard. She would make a welcome addition to our family. I hope we find her before old age wins the battle... Thanks, David Jones, Pecatonica, Illinois
