Hello List I am trying to trace my Godfrey line in Earl (Earlville), LaSalle County, IL. I would like to try to find marriages of Godfreys to Putnams. The 1850 census shows them living next door to each other as Peter Putnam married Patience Godfrey, probably back in Jefferson, NY, and the two families traveled together, first to IL and then to MN. However, I hoping to trace an male Godfrey killed about 1865 leaving a widow, Catherine, and a young son, Thomas (my great grandfather). Later, a Henry White married Catherine and adopted Thomas, and the 1870 census shows them in Mitchell County, IA, Lincoln township. I lose them in the 1860 census and by 1870, they are living in Silver Creek, MN. Questions: How can I find a death index an/or transcriptions of cemeteries in Illinois for Earl, LaSalle County? And, how could I possibly find a marriage certificate for Henry and Catherine White or Catherine Godfrey and UNK Godfrey?
